vbulletin and inability to post replies

hiya
this board seems to have absolutely no problems w/ posting and posting replies. but another board that i frequent often has problems w/ replies. it takes forever. or it takes forever only to time out. very frustrating.

any ideas why?

The other board probably has a poor handle on their bandwidth. In other words, too many users at once.

i should clarify that it seems to happen w/ certain threads (long ones maybe?). that is, if i wanted to post a new thread, usually, it goes thru right away.

the board admin says they are using mySQL and he's trying to look into it.

You could ask Geoff (founder of DVD Talk) directly. BTW, it didn't used to be this fast. Geoff tweaked something recently and now the performance is waaaaay better.

Could have to do with the DB. If the DB doesn't have the right indexing and/or enough power, it can take a long time.

Recently we figured out how to speed up thread edits/deletes/merge/etc by optimizing the DB. It's not an easy thing to run a forum, and I find myself constantly tweaking things for optimum performance.

thanks for the clues. i also think that the one forum topic is the most popular, if that has anything to do w/ it.

could it be from the user's end? one person posted that when she dumps all her temporary interent files, it seems to help...

I've been having posting problems on DVD Talk... even started a thread about it in here. I've tried dumping temp. Internet files, cookies, erasing histories, using different browsers... nothing seems to work.

today I'm having a lot of problems posting. I time out over and over. I hope this one goes through, in fact.
