I'd guess the logic is that letting members change the titles of their posts would lead to confusion. For example, other members who wanted to check in with the post later to see if there were any more responses might have a hard time finding it if the name was changed completely.

I am pretty sure that you can change it for a few minutes, giving you a chance to fix any typos.

The admin can set the time limit on how long people can change thread titles but I agree with the person above, letting people do it at will would only lead to mass confusion.

Generally, if you make a mistake on writing out a thread topic, you will notice it quickly enough. If you do, then you can act on it for a brief window of time. After thay time period you cannot, because as was already mentioned, it can cause confusion.

There is also the issue of avoiding people changing things around who might be a wee bit unscrupulous.

Well, I mean, it makes sense in some of the forums (DVD bargains, Other bargains, storeforum, dvdclub, etc.), 'cuz sometimes the specifics of a deal might change or the dead might be dead. So why not just enable it there?

Oh geez...

I think the admin and maybe the moderators have the ability to do that. If a thread title is no longer accurate then maybe contacting a mod would do some good.

I just switched to vBulletin on my own site so I'm not real familiar with this yet. I'm pretty sure the admin can do it and that (if he wants to give them permission) the mods can do it as well.

You are correct and this frequently happens. Often a request within the thread does the trick.

Often we "fix" titles without being asked.
