Can we get rid of the Web Bugs??
Hey Geoff, just a quick question here - I downloaded this free tool called Bugnosis (www.bugnosis.org) that scans webpages and identifies web bugs. It seems that in the DVDTalk forum, every page has three of these little buggers. Any chance they could be removed, or are they necessary for tracking purposes?
The first one is in the Support menu right before the "Best Buy" link. Bugnosis says that this is what this little bug wants to transfer to a third party:
The image isn't really necessary, all it is is a tracking bug from qksrv.net (CJ I think)...
The second one is quite similar and is in the same menu following the "Buy" link.
This one is served by ad.linksynergy.com and once again, is just a tracking bug that really isn't necessary.
The final bug is at the bottom of the page for some reason where there aren't any links at all (although it may be tracking people who click through to buy vBulletin). It is directly after the > that for some reason is right after "Jelsoft Enterprises Limited." This bug has the info:
This bug is being served by bfast.com and is just another web bug that really doesn't need to be there.
I can see them being on every page for tracking purposes, but are they really necessary? Do you really need to track how many times each page was viewed via webbugs? Obviously it's your site and you can do what you want with it, but these bugs are unnecessary and IMHO, evil.

It's my understanding that the images from Linkshare, BeFree and CJ are a part of how we get credit for people clicking through our links.
I could be wrong, but that's my understanding.
