Sorry the ads are so big, but we've got to pay the bills.

Yeah they're a little bigger but he moved the Forum Jump and the Price Search so it's not really taking up any more room. I think they stand out more than they did before. It's all good.

Now I gotta go into the Other Bargains and get a bigger monitor to compensate... warn us about things like this!!!

But I guess I'm gonna buy through the links above...

Thanks Geoff... no seriously. (I needed an excuse to get a bigger monitor!)

I was a little shocked & it might take a few days to get used to, but I think it's fine. I couldn't always tell what was being advertised with the smaller pics. Sometimes I clicked out of curiousity; sometimes I avoided.

no biggy. can members still paypal you money?

I have cut down on my online purchases since prices suck. however I still find deals here and would like to send you some money from time to time.

or i guess i could just pay more for a dvd every now and then if not. who pays you the most?

I think getting three Simpsons ads at once is kinda overkill.

try to refresh. The only time there were 3 simpson 'ads' was when I was testing things out.

I try to make sure that all the ads are different. so you don't get more than one of the same.

This is the most important thing, that the header size remains just about the same since the other things were moved.

Bigger images meant sacrificing space elsewhere, so overall, there's about the same amount of administrative stuff on top.

Besides, give it a few days. You won't even remember that the images were any other size.

For those who are curious. The old ads used to be 63X90 the new ones are 100X140 or 125X125 (a more standard size) Also I managed to compress some of the verticle space around the forum jump box and the price search box and found a place to put them both on the same line.

I compared the vertical space between the 2 and it's pretty close, The new one is a little taller but only by a few pixels.

Any time we make a modification to the forum & ads it's with an eye towards balancing the needs and wants of our members and what we need to do to pay for the site. I actally think the forum jump is better placed now than it was and the box shots/ads are much more clear.

The Forum Jump does not appear on my Mac in Netscape... I'll check in Explorer...

UPDATE: Works in Explorer on the Mac, but still no go in Netscape

I really like having the Forum Jump closer to the posts. Less need to scroll back up to jump to another forum (I skip around a lot).

But it is going to take some getting used to.

I have an idea. Make this like slot machines. If you get 3 ads for the same DVD, you win the DVD.

I like the new ad size. It was often difficult, if not impossible, to read the titles of the dvds. Although this often coherced me into clicking the dvd in curiosity, I'll probably click on them more often since I now know their title.

The only complaint I still have is that 4 out of 5 times I notice an ad I'm interested in as I'm changing pages, but of course if I go back it's not there any more, so I gotta reload a couple times. But that's probably just because I'm "special".

The forum is loading slower than normal, is that because of the larger ads?

The forum was running slow the past 24 or so hours because of the Nimda Virus. While our servers aren't infected, we have been the target of Denial of Service attacks from Nimda infected systems.

We have put countermeasures in place and so things should be running better now.

We should start a Paypal drive for a new server, I know its been thrown around before, but I know I'd be willing to chip in.

no forum jump

I can see the words "Forum Jump" under the DVDTalk Forum logo, but there's no list of forums to jump to. Is this just me?

Thanks for your help.

Geoff, would there be enough room to add a "DeepDiscountDVD" or "DDD" to the set of links at the very top? Right now, none of the individual links is on the first line, perhaps if you added a few hard spaces (whitespace) after the "Help Support DVD Talk by shopping through These Links", then there would be enough room on the 2nd line of links to fit in DeepDiscountDVD.

Same here. I am using Netscape on a Mac. And I just checked on my PC too, and Netscape there doesn't show the Jump menu either.
