polls

is it just me.. or have the polls changed? now they seem to go to the top and show up as unread whenever there is a new vote in them...
before they only went to the top or showed up as unread when there was a new reply.

Someone had complained earlier because the polls didn't go up when they voted, so maybe Geoff changed it. I guess it makes sense because many of the polls are simple questions that really require no discussion beyond voting, just like the polls that were answered with one line or less replies before.

Fur Q 08-01-01 10:04 AM

excellent! i think it's great that votes now bump threads.

so every time someone votes for twakoff we all know. :)

i always vote twekoff.

twikoff 08-01-01 10:32 AM

i thought the earlier complain was that post count didnt go up with new votes.. and that was pretty much blown off, because post count is not a concern..
i like the idea of them going up with new votes.. but damn.. it is definitly going to be harder to keep up with the threads.. since now there will be 2-3 times more unread.. but Im more interested in replies then vote count
oh well... just my rant for the day.

popped in here to ask the very same question ...

assuming that a new vote bumps the thread to the top (and not a phantom bump), the main forum page now looks somewhat deceiving. in the "Last Post" column at the far right, the time stamp will be the time of the last vote, but underneath it will have the username of the person that last posted a message. so if twikoff posted the last message at 10:05 today, and I voted at 10:18, the "Last Post" column will read:

08-01-01 10:18 AM
by twikoff

twikoff 08-01-01 11:20 AM

ack... after a few hours of actually using it.. i think i would rather do away with polls completely, rather then having them move to the top everytime someone votes in them.. too deceiving

Josh H 08-01-01 11:25 AM

This is getting annoying. Now the top of the forums, especially Other and Movie Talk, are going to be all pools

Do Away With Polls or Start a Polls Forum!!!

Fur Q 08-01-01 11:48 AM

thanks admins for the upgrade. i forgot to say that earlier.

:)

MadameTourvel 08-01-01 02:23 PM

I have noticed that now, after I vote, instead of being taken to the results (as it has been in the past), I am taken right back to the poll. To see the results, I have to click on "view results," even after I've voted. Anyone else have this problem?

namja 08-01-01 03:34 PM

I'm voting :thmbsdwn: :thmbsdwn:

Bushdog 08-01-01 03:36 PM

Geoff, make this go away. It is VERY bad. I hate it like death.

I'm being nice about it above, I can't print my real thoughts as per forum rules.;)

Heat 08-01-01 03:36 PM

I'd like to vote against this feature. If the poll is good enough, people will respond to it, thus bumping it back up.

Dr. Dean 08-01-01 03:40 PM

Very freaking annoying...Just say NO

Boot 08-01-01 03:44 PM

IMO a poll thread should be bumped only by a response, not by a simple vote with no contribution to the discussion at hand. Although the poll results are worthy of review, one vote in and of itself adds little to a thread; it's the posts that matter.

Three Day Delay 08-01-01 04:30 PM

I'm also for separating the polls into another forum.

Yes, please change this behavior back. It's really annoying.

GeoffK 08-01-01 09:54 PM

I changed it back

It seemed like a good idea ... until we started seeing all them polls atop every forum ...

Fur Q 08-02-01 10:54 AM

i'll just keep my mouth shut in future :(

I for one would like to see this brought to an end. It was amusing the first 27 times, and I have no objection to funny poll options, but, just like the overuse of parody threads...

Ditto

matta 08-02-01 08:29 PM

The otter forum is known for overabused jokes. Besides, what can you do? Declare that twikoff cannot be a poll option? If that happens, I'm sure you'll see something else pop up in it's place.

It's only a few days old. Let it run its course.

Aghama 08-06-01 10:28 AM

I've noticed a weird issue recently, where after I vote I have to reload the page in order to see the results. Anyone else experience this?
