Well, Geoff invited me to rejoin the fray, so here's a real quick logo I just whipped up. Remember, none of these are necessarily finished logos, just directions that we can go in.

How about one without a disc. I think we all know DVDs are round.

Wow that feel's very 50's

The one I like the best right now is:

For space I like the one on the left as it'll fit best in our design.

But I also like the concept of:

but I HATE the Font, and to me it says DuD Talk.

Maybe there's a way for the two to meet

Ok smarty pants, here's one.

However, even though we all know that DVDs are round I think that it is useful (although not mandatory) that the logo be immediately recognizable as having some symbolic value, even at greatly reduced size. It needs to convey more than just funny font design to viewers. Like the F-cked Company logo, with the crumbling building. A great idea. So I think, since this site deals with such a specific item - a orund disc - that that should be incorporated some slightly abstract way. Afterall, whoever came up with the official DVD logo that we're currently borrowing didn't throw that oval in at random.

Just my opinion.

For the record I really don't like the "squished" oval version of my logo with the big V. It looks exactly like what it is. A squished version of a round logo.

I totally agree that this would be THE logo to go with, if it were not for that horrid "v." Sykes, go with Randy's suggestion and make the "v" a two-stroke letter, just like it's been for hundreds (thousands?) of years. Don't mess with the alphabet.

Buskerdog, no offense, but to me, your latest logo (the one with the disc) looks more like a record than a DVD. I don't think Geoff wants the site to be associated with LPs.

How about the Dud Talk but make it DVD Talk, and add a big microphone in the picture? (as in "talk")

Also, change the U to a V and repost so we can see what the new version looks like. Or you could add an "e" to the end, make it "Dude Talk".

The problem with the "V" is the little stick that is attached to the first "D" falls to the right upwards. It's supposed to fall to the left upwards and attach to the "D" to make it look like a "V". Understand?
...........................

We should have these two on T-shirts. And a buying option in which you decide what shape you want.

Seriously, I got good taste, this is it, eye catching, freakin awesome.

P.S: The other one identical to this one looks to have the shape of batmans outer shape, no like. Circle is more, different, unique.
100% agree - this is eyecatching. Although I'd buy any DVDTalk shirt, I'd actually wear one with this design.

Plaster that phat symbol on a navy blue shirt (Can you imagine a long sleeve navy blue shirt version? ) and you got yourself a kickass t-shirt, and not to mention, a packed website. Gulp.

Here's the funny thing: I don't really like my own logo in that context, never did. The name doesn't pop at that size. I could either alter it for that use (nothing wrong with different treatments for different uses) or the layout of the page could change slightly to accomodate the new logo. I'm just underwhelmed by it there.

I have to agree, it just doesn't work in that spot. It feels 'fit in' raher than 'jumping out'

Maybe we look at more than 1 T-shirt option and also look at what's best for the site..

Hmmmmmm

I agree for the site now that I look at it. It does look pretty flat. (I just love that shape though, the V looks like a beak, that is what makes it look awesome, sort of like insect design look, get the drift? ) (For a T-shirt, it's a different story, I think it's pretty awesome. )

Here are a couple of type treatments (and then I gotta go!) There are NOT logos, just type treatments. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas of what to do with them, shout 'em out.

Since I've seen fit to weigh in on this, I figure it's only fair to throw in one of my own. But it's not a jumper either.

with slight drop shadow ...

I don't like the circle logo, it just looks bad in my opinion.

I'd vote for Sykes version, if the "u" can be turned into a "v".

I also like noelgross's version, though I think it needs something (maybe either a microphone with it, or a video cable, or a DVD (generic) next to it, etc).

*Edit: See below.
Actually, the one depicted above (as posted this morning) was a final attempt to salvage my "hooked v". This is in contrast to the original, depicted below below.
*Edit: See below.
It now comes closer to resembling a "v" than it possibly could sans "hook." Does this still look like DUD Talk?

However, I do know when I am licked. If this one is still a no-go, I'll work on employing a new font, with appropriately "sharp v."

Noel.

Here's a sample with your logo: http://www.dvdtalk.com/indextest2.html

Sykes - Sorry but I still don't like the U

Noel, I really like the way your log fits on the page. But it needs something more around/near/below something....

Chattering teeth might be fun. Heh. Regardless, the type could stand to be a wee bit smaller as to avoid looking smashed by the banner. We could also put a shadow on it to make the color kick out more.

Someone suggested a microphone, which is interesting looking, but doesn't quite jive. A video cable seems a little odd also.

Okay, having absolutely no true creativity of my own, I've decided to rip-off elements from everyone elses designs.
