Check out the image in this thread... is this OK (for some reason I don't think so ) or still a part of today's little blow-up?

Self "Promotion"

I have really gotten a kick out of your little hissy fits over this "self-promotion" that supposedly went on yesterday. It was a PETITION from heaven's sake! It was 1 link inside of a message and a sig ... Sheesh!

DVD Shrine hardly has a forum, but they have really good reviews. You guys have TERRIBLE reviews and a great forum.

What's the big deal? Aren't there enough browsing DVD consumers to share?

What's the fun in posting in an EDITED forum? What is this? Nazi Germany?!?

Get over yourselves.

David,

It actually wasn't a big deal. The guy from DVD Shrine was crossing the line between being a participant and promoting his site. I sent him a casual e-mail about my feelings and he went postal.

I wouldn't have taken the steps to close his petition thread or remove the link to his site had he not really crossed the line from member to shamless plugger.

There actually are several other member sigs on the forum which link to other sites, technically they're not supposed to do that, but in general those members are helpful and selfless members of the forum who DON'T go around promoting their site... so we don't hastle them about it.

For every big blow up like this one there are a thousand little things that just slide by. I see you are a new member so I encourage you to spend some time here in the forum and get to know the ebb and flow of these things.

And for the record, it really urks me when people compare an administraive action to nazi germany, they're legions apart, and I personally lost relatives in the concentration camps.

Geoff,

Well said and I applaud your efforts to make DVDtalk a great community. That guy was an idiot and a troll and deserved to get banned

Matt.
