Why all the adult films listed as the "hot DVD" in the promo boxes at the top of the page all of a sudden? Not that I'm offended, mind you, but it's a little different going from "Lawrence of Arabia" to "Pamela Anderson Prancing About With A Firehose"

From: under the stars with a great view of the mountains and a the lovely aroma of cow shit.
That's jeanna jameson. and Geoff i think you should put more up. It could only increase your click through rate.

My guess is that the adult banners get more "clicks". Geoff has made it pretty clear that the crash of the dot com economy has had an effect. I don't blame him. After all, I like looking at a well made pair of breasts as much as the next guy...

Right now, it's 8.30AM, and I have a rather nice advert for "Flashpoint" starring Jenna Jameson, and also a rather large Five Star DVD banner turning up about every fourth ad on the main site.
Ad server having a little trouble telling the time?

11:00AM, "Hot DVD" finally changes from "Jenna Jameson: Plaything" to "Tora! Tora! Tora!" Ad server seems to have finally accepted that it's not the late-night slot any more.

It's a bit bloody pointless making a big hoo-ha about the adult ads "only appearing at nightime" when what this actually means is "only appearing at nighttime as long as you happen to live in the US, otherwise go f*ck yourself." Oh well, I suppose if Geoff's getting enough traffic from the US as it is, why should he bother trying to make the site more accessible for international users...

So are you going to grace us with your comments on the matter, Geoff, or just ignore it until the thread slips into obscurity and hope nobody brings it up again?

What can I say. I bend over backwards for our members. On our old ad server we could do relative time. Now we can't. I'm sorry that mature ads have poped up for you during the day. I'll do my best to make sure that they aren't glaringly risque but the truth is... We've got to pay the bills to survive.

Jesus. I like using the feedback forum to try and help the site, and others just like to complain. Anyway, if you guys are so concerned about the ads showing up while you are at work..maybe you should try...oh, I don't know...WORKING at WORK!

To tell the truth, I scarcely notice those ads but I don't currently view them from work.
Perhaps us international types should just turn off the images (via browser settings) when surfing DVDTalk in critical locations during US night-time.
Or just BAN communication with the relevant ad server.
As our resident Host File Guru, perhaps Startide could post a modified version of this tutorial? There is a downside, though, since users might forget to view and clickthrough the ads during non-adult periods....
