DVD Talk is now more of a brand name rather than a description, IMNSHO. And there is nothing whatsoever wrong with such an evolution: when you go to a department store you visit the section(s) that interest(s) you regardless of the origins of the original store or its name. The very existence of the departments you don't visit need have no negative effect on your overall shopping experience.
What sense does it make? Commercial sense presumably.

The Other Forum is a fertile breeding ground for a VARIETY of different thoughts and topics. Removing all of the topics that are BOTH highly specific and active would be a mistake and make the Other Forum sterile.
The book forum is a bad example to use as a reason why you should have another forum. That is because book discussions are way more leisurely-paced than the vast majority of Other Forum topics and are virtually killed by being moved to Page 20 or 30 by the time a dvdTalk bookfan comes back to the Other Forum (after a break of 2 or 3 days). By having book topics in their own forum, the activity of book topics increased to their more natural level once their threads weren't de facto killed by being on Page 20.
On the other hand, many topics in the Other Forum have a high intensity but very short lifespan, and they are ideal for that forum. It is desirable that some time-period topics there drop to page 20 once discussion ceases (such as political topics, today's news, certain sports events, who shot J.R., etc).
Just because Books were separated from Other doesn't mean that themes such as WTF, sports, politics, and business/environment issues should be separate too. In many cases, those topics share many common features with each other in terms of forum dynamicism, propagation mechanics, and response rate. It is better that these kudzu-like topics stay together in the Other Forum and have their peculiar fecund orgy.

I am against this. Completely!
I may still be a "newbie"(in terms of time here) but the Other forum is being watered down enough...I think the forums we have no are perfect.
And I'm sorry for the gentleman above who doesn't want the Other forum around...maybe some of us like shopping for diamond rings at KB toys..

I support a music forum 100% as well. Then I wouldn't have to spend as much time in the Other Forum populated by a certain Australian's idiotic sex threads.

Aren't DVD-based music already covered by forums such as Reviews as well as the DVDTalk forum? So, there would be some confusion as to which forum to post the article about DVD music video reviews, or would we post the DVD music review in the general music forum?

I'll ask again
Aren't DVD-based music already covered by both the Reviews forum and DVDTalk forum? So, by having yet another Music forum, there could be some confusion as to which forum to post articles such as DVD music video reviews, DTS music commentary, or would we post the DVD music review in the general music forum? If so, then do we NOT post a review of that DVD in the normal DVD Review forum as well (to avoid duplication)? I assume that DVD audio and DVD music videos are an up and coming topic in the coming year after summer is over and the music companies roll out their fall offerings.

For what you said, I would say leave them in the DVD forums. But I'm not all too important.

The Music Talk forum would be for general music discussions. Discussion of specs, problems, release dates, of a music dvd would go in DVD Talk and reviews of music dvds would go in DVD Reviews. It would be the same as the All About Movies forum. It's for general movie discussion, where anything DVD related goes in one of the DVD forums. The Music talk forum would be for general music discussion, where as anything pertaining specifically to a music dvd would go in one of the DVD forums.

Not so long ago I thought Geoff said that the idea was under consideration but that there were other priorities, so....
.... it is not that he doesn't want to oblige, simply that there are other tasks competing for his time and for server space.
But I may be wrong.
(The Book Forum was created first, IIRC, because there was a small campaign for it and it was something that Geoff already liked the idea of so, naturally, it could be prioritised).
