I didn't want that thread closed...I meant the one in the post. Not sure if Bushdog relized this or not.
Anyway,
Is there any way to get back that same notify a mod function that was on the newer version of the board? It would be extremely useful. If not, is there a way to make a contact a mod through some other form than email? I don't use outlook express and whenever I click on mailto: link, it is pretty annoying. I have to open up a separate browser, log into email, etc. It is just time consuming. Would there be a way to send a message through the site, rather than an email?

Thanks,

Dan

I closed them both. The easiest route is to email a mod in the forum. Top left of the page, right before the threads have email links.

True, but I think the point he's making is that if you don't use a standalone email program, then "mailto" links don;t work. It's all well and good if you use Outlook Express or the like, but if your only email account is a web-based one then it's just far too much trouble emailing a mod; a "one click" thing suddenly involves opening a new window, logging in, cutting and pasting the address, etc...

Geoff,

If it will be a while for us to make the shift to vB 2.0, could you add a "Notify the Mods" link to the top of every forum for now (wouldn't it be just a simple CGI script?) next to the names of the mod(s)?

That is exactly what I am saying. Thank you for clarifying.

This would certainly solve mine and many other peoples problems.

Awww...we're using PHP for the board and for review software, so why not keep the PHP-love going there too? I already wrote an extremely simple form->e-mail thing for the review software...I could easily put one together here if anyone's interested.

I would be interested, if it is not too much trouble and Geoff doesn't have a problem putting it on the boards.

I know almost nothing about scripts, only that CGI's are used a lot. Didn't mean to crush on the PHP-love there ...

The point was that it'd be nice to have a link (PHP, CGI, or otherwise) that would automate the process (like how we had in vB 2.0) without the need of a mail client.

If we just listed the emails on the top next to the name it would be better. I use notes so I have to click the name, then copy the email into notes. I have to do it three times to get all the mods in the other forum.

I have to agree, it is a major league hassle. But understand that it is a real pain in the butt for Geoff to try to do something about it.

Have you tried using the

<img src="http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/images/sendtofriend.gif"> <a href="http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/sendtofriend.php?threadid=105151">Email This Page To Someone</a>

option at the top of the page under the profile/faq/search/etc icons?

You'll still need to input the moderator's email, but if you keep a list nearby, that's an easy one click solution.

Does that mail a text version of the whole page or just the thread? I'd hate to dump a bunch of trolling spam into <b>Bushdog</b>'s mailbox.

Then again... maybe I <i>would</i> like to... oh never mind.

I'd love you send you 300 copies of all of AvidFan's posts ... but unfortunately the <img src="http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/images/sendtofriend.gif"> <a href="http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/sendtofriend.php?threadid=105151">Email This Page To Someone</a> link just sends a pointer to the thread to the email address.

300 URL links wouldn't have just the same effect, I think
