any talk of a GHOST WORLD SE? it was talked about a few years ago, but it never came to be.

Manzana 08-23-05 05:51 PM

Are there any threads or web sites with details describing how the upcoming releases (the 3rd time) of each James Bond movie is going to differ from the previous Special Edition?

On the first page of this thread for each James Bond movie it projects an October 2005 release date and says:

"All Bond films will be re-released with remastered picture and sound. New documentaries will be added to the discs with exclusive interviews with cast and crew members from the past 42 years, along with rare and unseen footage from the productions."

I couldn't find any preorder details on Amazon or other major retailers. I'd like to know if the remastered picture and sound is worth me spending another large amount of money to upgrade because I didn't think the picture quality of the Special Editions was that bad (although the sound on the early ones could use some help). I don't care about new documentaries enough to upgrade.

It would really help to know which ones I want to upgrade, if any, before they are released, so I can sell the old ones before they are worthless.

Here is some fairly detailed info on the new releases - it's not that recent, but I haven't seen anything more current :

Bond DVD info

It says the release date has been pushed back to Q3 OF 2006 to coincide with the theatrical release of Casino Royale .

Also, all the films up to The World is Not Enough will get new HD transfers from 4000 line masters.

Manzana 08-26-05 11:49 PM

Thanks, NCYankee! I probably would've never found that MI6 site on my own. I haven't been keeping up on Bond movie news, but it sounds like Casino Royale is the next Bond movie and it was planned for late 2005 and got pushed back a full year because they haven't even started filming?!

I guess this news gives me many more months to decide about selling off my Bond SEs. I keep waiting for one of those 10 cent listing days on eBay to do this, but sadly they haven't had one for a long time and may never again.

It sounds like the first page of this thread should be updated for all the Bond films to remove the "10/--/2005?".

oh i'm fine with the version that is out there. i just remember that a rep for mgm told me in 2002 or 2003 that there was a SE on the way. she pointed out that there is a photo on the back from a deleted scene that is not on the dvd, and that it would be on the SE that zwigoff was currently working on. if it doesn't happen, i wouldn't be surprised. just wondering if anyone had any info, because the info actually came from a source at mgm. of course their merger will probably decrease the chances of this happening even more...

The problem is that there was a mixup and instead of Zwigoff working on it, it was Twikoff. That could be why it never came out. :)

Mikko-

According to viewaskew.com, Mallrats X will be out 9/20 and will be a single flipper disc, not a 2-disc set.

Giles 09-07-05 02:13 PM

what's Universal stance with re-releasing John Woo's Hard Target - with all the grue and violence restored... ?? a definative unrated cut is in much need IMO.

I also thought at one point Fox was going to do a SE of Broken Arrow (with DTS - ? - my OOP DTS laserdisc is utterly unreal and LOUD).

any new news of either.

joltman 09-08-05 03:03 PM

Just thought I'd point out that the Lady and the Tramp Platinum Edition is set to be released on 2/28/06

BKMaggert 09-12-05 02:46 PM

Mikko,

You've got The Sting SE listed for release in November, but it has already been released.

Giles 09-13-05 09:47 AM

I'm surprised Disney isn't rereleasing Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas - the current disc is sorely missing an anamorphic print - maybe by the time The Corpse Bride comes rolling onto DVD - hint, hint.

uhftv 09-14-05 01:30 AM

Don't know why you'd need another version of La Dolce Vita.

The Yards: Director's Cut

Don't see it on your list. Looks like it picks up a few of the extras the 1st US version didn't have.

Davisdvd.com:

Buena Vista Home Entertainment has announced The Yards: Director's Cut for release on December 13th. The Mark Wahlberg drama arrives with an anamorphic transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1, a commentary with director James Gray, a second commentary with director James Gray and Steven Soderbergh, deleted scenes, a behind-the-scenes featurette, "Visualising The Yards" featurette, a roundtable discussion (with Charlize Theron, Mark Wahlberg, James Caan and James Gray), original concept art and the trailer. Retail is $19.99.

A couple updates from <a href="http://www.ultimatedisney.com/">Ultimate Disney</a>
Little Mermaid - 10/3/06
Chicago - postponed to 12/20/05

Giles 09-19-05 04:09 PM

has there been any mention if and when 20th Century Fox will remaster the 1956 musical The King and I with an anamorphic print.

Legolas 09-20-05 07:41 PM

Any word on the rumors of a Crash SE? The Matt Dillon movie, not the James Spader one.

IGN reports there will be a new release of Gattaca.

mike01 09-23-05 06:48 PM

anyone know how long the Halloween 4 and 5 have been rumored? Wondering if I should wait or pick up the set at DDD now on sale?

dolphinboy 09-30-05 07:29 PM

Is there a website or forum that is dedicated to the re-release of films that are now out with pathetic non-anamorphic versions?

Do people write studios about this or do studios even give info about whether they plan to get anamorphic versions out there.

I think I have about 29 non-anamorphic dvds out of about 500, but they're some of our very favorites. French Kiss, The American President, When A Man Loves A Woman, Beautiful Girls, Grosse Pointe Blank, etc.

With all the double dipping, it makes me frustrated that titles like these don't even get a proper transfer.

While I'd love special editions as much as the next guy, I'd be just fine with 16 x 9 enhanced and 5.1.

fryinpan1 10-01-05 07:34 AM

A River Runs Through It - Deluxe Edition - 11/29/05

Manzana 10-13-05 12:19 AM

Has anyone heard anything about a Back to the Future 4-DVD edition for R1? Apparently there is one for R2, so I'm wondering if it's only a matter of time before we get the double-dip in the US:

http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=58852

Unfortunately it was not immediately obvious looking at the extras breakdown if there is much new compared to the 3-DVD edition. For instance, I find it strange that deleted scenes are listed on each movie disc and then again on the 4th disc.

John*D 10-13-05 01:32 AM

For the new 4 disc BTTF R2, it's the R1 extras on its very own disc.

Manzana 10-14-05 04:55 PM

Does that mean the upcoming BTTF R2 4-DVD set has nothing new over the old R1 3-DVD release?

Usually the other regions get better releases than R1, so that would mean the previous R2 BTTF release just had the 3 movies and no extras. That would be surprising. I wonder if moving all of the extras to a 4th disc on the R2 4-DVD set means the 3 movies will get higher bitrates or if they'll just leave a lot of unused space on each movie disc?

Not that I'm going to buy the R2 release, but I did want to make sure the R2 release didn't mean another BTTF "Ultimate Edition" release was coming soon for R1.
