A couple of months ago I ordered a couple of DVD sets that I'm looking forward to digging into. First, the Mill Creek set of the original Ultraman series. In addition, I got the series box set of Lost In Space, which makes Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea the only Irwin Allen series that I have still to complete. With additional streaming content, and a few movies I've bought as well, I'm looking forward to next month.

Me too. I grabbed a few movies from the library to work on a icheckmovies list as I try to knock off at least one or two each year of movies I wouldn't necessarily watch normally. The Prestige, Donnie Darko and The Minority Report are the ones I'm planning on this year. The rest of of my watch list is TBD. I know a lot of people plan ahead but I just usually go by how I'm feeling that day. I have a small pile of movies I've bought over the year and have been saving as well, but I'm prone to change to my mind several times...

Same here. I've not used the checklist in years because of how many new titles I've purchased and/or older titles I want to rewatch I tend to have. I think this year is the first in many where I only have a dozen or two newly purchased titles so may use the checklist to help select stuff for rewatching.

I still do the checklist and see how far I can get. I will sometimes use it to help me pick something when I'm being wishy-washy as well. It's been a great incentive to watch movies I would not have picked for myself over the years.

Part of my problem with checklists is I tend to get rather OCD with them and have frequently purchased a film solely to complete an entry. I've wound up with more than a few "meh" to outright "bad" movies that way. If I don't use it I don't feel compelled to purchase those titles. At least at this point I'm pretty sure I have something to check off more than enough items to complete the checklist - as long as I don't go all "I need 100% on everything even if you only need 10 to qualify the category" mode. :lol:

Got it! I can understand trying 100% the list! I'm pretty lucky in that while I do occasionally try to 100% the check list, I don't feel the need to buy anything to do so! I'm also lucky in my local library too. It's tiny, but we have a consortium I think they call it, where 100s of libraries are joined together so I can very easily borrow a VERY wide range of things that I wouldn't normally have access to. I'd say about 8 out of 10 times I can find what I'm looking for through them. That does require planning ahead but I can usually get things within 5 or 6 days so as long as it's not the last week of the challenge, I can get them in time.

Those are the numbers that were pulled from the random generator for the actor list. They correspond to my Google doc list so I know who to put there. To keep track, I crossed them off. I must have left them in when I posted. Sorry, I'll get them out of there!

I plan to make full use of having a home office school being online to get quite a few of my watches in. I kicked off tonight with a movie from the Mill Creek Sci Fi Classics set. It turned out to be a Gamera movie, Attack Of The Monsters , where he fought Guiron. Gamera has always been a favorite of mine, so I felt that the luck of the draw was on my side tonight.

I started the challenge with a first time watch, The Prestige. It's been on my radar for several years, but just never quite got to it until now. I'm so glad I did watch it. It's one of the better movies I've seen in a very long time. It keeps you guessing back and forth and there's just enough doubt to keep you wondering. The last 20 or so minutes really kept my attention. There's only one bit that I wish they'd done a little differently/don't see the need for how it was done. Spoiler here!

Watched Hello Down There (1969), tonight. I don't remember the last time I watched it, sometime in the late Seventies, maybe. I probably thought it was a cromulent sci-fi-ish comedy. Now, over half a century since it was released, what I get from it is a feeling of the zeitgeist of the Saturday morning cartoon block of the late Sixties and early Seventies. The songs could be slipped seamlessly into almost any episode of The Archies, Jose and the Pussycats, Scooby-Doo, Jabberjaw, etc... With a little tweaking of the plot and characters, it could have been a Saturday morning toon from that period.

I watched The Unknown Terror which is part of Kino Lorber's recent Sci-Fi Chillers Collection. It's a fun bit of 50s mad doctor silliness about a trio of people searching for a lost relative in the jungle. They find a white scientist with dodgy ethics living in a jungle compound which is never a good sign. Then I watched Time Bandits, a movie that I wish I liked more. I enjoy all the time travel antics (especially the cameos by Ian Holm and John Cleese), but I find the third act really boring. Criterion's restoration looks great.

I watched Donnie Darko for the first time tonight. I was prepared to not like it. It ended up being better than I thought, though I think this is one you watch a few times before you feel like you understand what exactly happened and maybe not even then.

My numbers are likely going to be much lower this year as we moved into a new house a week ago - still moving stuff from the old (which we still own) to the new and getting everything set up/put away/etc. and weeding out ~37 years of stuff for keep/sell prior to listing the old house. Kind of kills any movie time I normally have. So far I've managed 1 per day and feel lucky to do that much! Even then I've fallen asleep on the selected movie at least once but do manage to finally get through them. lol

I *really* want to find/make time for the 3 "Lord of the Rings" extended version movies as it's been a couple of years since my last viewing of that series.

Good luck with the rest of the moving and organizing. It's amazing who much time moving takes.

Yesterday evening, I watched a double feature of The Colossus of New York and Hellboy (2004). The former is cheesy and fun and full of geniuses making the absolute worst decisions. The latter is a lot of fun and visually fantastic but overstuffed and messy. Like Time Bandits, it's a movie that I don't connect with despite loving the aesthetic.

Watched Minority Report and A Matter of Life and Death yesterday. Minority Report was okay. Watchable but nothing I really would watch again, but at least I crossed it off the list. A Matter of Life and Death was not bad though. I've never heard of it before seeing it on a icheckmovies list and when I saw it was available on Youtube, saved it for a maybe watch (It is in the public domain from what I've seen). It stars David Niven and is about a WW2 British pilot who jumps out of his plane without a parachute and lives because it was too foggy for Death to find him. Has some themes about love and if everyone really hates the British. Other than a bit of preachiness at the end, it was entertaining. It's half b&w and half Technicolor which is used very well.

I had originally planned to watch the pilot mini series of the reboot Battlestar Galactica ​​​​​​, but the disc wasn’t in my box set. Thinking I may have lent it to someone once. As a second choice I decided on Ultraman​​​​​​, since I had started disc 1 a week or two ago. While watching, I got to thinking about how Toho’s Eiji Tsubaraya was responsible for the special effects. And even as a half hour tv series, it shows. I haven’t gotten that far yet, but I remember reading that one of the monsters was actually the Showa Godzilla costume. It just had a frill added to its neck.
