Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
There's an Indicator Limited-Edition sale at Deep Discount. There's four horror titles in there including a couple of great Mexican Gothic horror films. Code PLUNGE or DEEP10 takes an extra 10% off.
If you're into SOV flicks Vinegar Syndrome has some Culture Shock titles for $10 ($15 with slip). A couple have gone up so it might be ending soon. And don't forget about the 50% Off Arrow Video sale. It runs until the end of the month in case there's any subset picks included.
|
Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
The Mist is being released on 4K on October 3rd. Best Buy has an exclusive steelbook that was announced to be $37.99, but when I checked their website, it was listed for $26.99. I don't know if it's a mistake, but I would jump on it if you're interested.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
I haven't seen anything from IBJoel about doing the Random September Movie Watch like he did last year. Has anyone heard from him?

Just saw screambox is doing 3 months for .99 cents each month. It says new customers only, but it let me sign up.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
Post #9 is once again updated as of this post. A few dozen entries mysteriously disappeared for awhile, which I'm sure was an error on my part, but they're now back. Also the original link for Frightfest Guide to Grindhouse Movies went dead -- alyxstarr's backup link was there to save the day.

Here's a few themes that could use some subset love. Some are already taken, but I always like to have a few extra just in case things need switching around. I'll keep it updated periodically. Wrong Side of the Art Mashup True Video Nasties Defunct Studios Frightfest (Grindhouse) Farewell (Bill) Farewell (Mr. B.I.G.) Anthologies Supernatural Parasite Halloween
|
Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
Man Behind the Sun 1988 or The Incredible Melting Man 1977 - Wrong Side of the Art.
Frankenstein vs Baragon 1965 or Night of the Blood Beast (1958) - Defunct Studios |
Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
My net is down right now, so can't easily check. So if this has been used before, please disregard. But I just finished watching a great movie on Comet that would fit the Halloween theme. The 1986 Trick or Treat about the dead metal rocker. Not to be confused with the later anthology, Trick R Treat .

Counting down the days to this Friday, 8/18, when Chad says we'll get this year's subset list. Whoot! Excited to see it and start gathering the films together. I'm at 92% on the Zombies list now and my goal is to hit 99% by Nov 2. I've been watching one a day for several months now. The last 53 I'll watch during the challenge. Last night was The Horde (2009). Decent French zombie movie. The worst one I watched recently was In a Glass Cage (1986). I was not prepared for how disturbing that film was. |
Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

The Category of Nasty: An Exploration of Banned & Extreme Cinema
Night of the Defunct Studios (I was assigned CBS Films)
The FrightFest Guide: Volume 2 (Grindhouse)
Farewell Banana Man, Goodbye Scorpion, Godspeed Cannibal Man & Adieu Mr. B.I.G. A Celebration of the Olsen Brothers (Bill)

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
^Thank you, sir. That solves another missing piece of the subset puzzle.
Quick update. Due to some family issues I haven't been in here as much as I'd like over the last month, but things are getting done. I'll hopefully have a bigger presence in here soon. I'm still shooting for Friday night (8/18) on the subset list, and the plan is to post it regardless of whether or not we have all the picks in by then. I'm certainly not trying to rush any one, I just wanna keep things moving along so everyone can plan ahead. I *might* also have to ask a couple of people to provide more picks. I'll let you know in a day or so. And post #9 is once again up-to-date as of this post. |
Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
If anyone else is looking for the "ultimate collector's edition" of The Exorcist 4K, which has been sold out, Amazon has some now:

So I use this site to find TV and Movie showings during the Halloween season. This year the site actually started listing horror movies earlier, for dvr setting.

^Much appreciated.
That's everyone. And scratch what I said earlier about possibly needing more picks. I have everything I need. |
Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
Obviously studios have mostly stopped sending us stuff, but I do have a few movies I can send out to a winner, hopefully more will trickle in towards October. Is there still interest in a Random Pick Pre-Gaming Giveaway?
