I vote for Blithe Spirit (1945) because it's the only one I haven't seen before. Looks interesting.
Also voting for Ready or Not. But I'd also be happy to watch Renfield again. Super fun.

Yeah, thanks. You're on the list. That puts us at last year's final volunteer count - 24.

Forgot to say thanks to the last two volunteers as well.

I'll give that aforementioned subset update soon.

Hell, I had never heard of it until a few weeks ago. It's got Rex Harrison, in a similar vibe to The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, which is one of my all time favorites.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Super bummed. I went to pre-order Exorcist 4K. The edition at Amazon and Best Buy are bare bones -- the only special features are 2 commentary tracks and nothing else.
There are 2 cool editions in the UK that list tons of special features, including 6 different documentaries about the movie. One is at Zaavi and one at Amazon UK. But both of those are sold out. (And I guess Zaavi no longer ships to the US anyway).
The special collector's edition (that is sold out) is listed on the Warner Bros UK site: The Exorcist 50th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition with Steelb – Warner Bros. Shop - UK

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to why Warner Bros would put out a special collector's edition with lots of special features in the UK but NOT in the US? I don't care about the posters and lobby cards and all that myself, but I do want all the digital special features.
Also, if you know of anywhere to order one of these, let me know. You can find them on ebay, but they're already going for hundreds of dollars.

FYI, here are the special features on the sold out Zaavi one:
Director's Cut Blu-Ray
 • 3x Documentaries: Raising Hell: Filming The Exorcist, The Exorcist Locations: Georgetown, Then and Now and Faces of Evil: The Different Versions of The Exorcist
 • Commentary by Director William Friedkin
Theatrical Cut Blu-Ray
 • 2 Commentaries by Director William Friedkin and Producer/Screenwriter William Peter Blatty
 • Introduction by William Friedkin
 • Feature-Length 1998 Documentary The Fear of God: The Making of The Exorcist
 • Interview Gallery Covering the Topics: The Original Cut, The Final Reckoning and Stairway to Heaven
 • Original Ending
Special Features Blu-Ray
 • Beyond Comprehension: William Peter Blatty's The Exorcist Documentary
 • Talk of the Devil Documentary

One would hope, since it hasn't even been released yet, the special editions will come back in stock.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

^Yeah, I missed out as well. It's hard to keep up with all the releases lately.

The Canadian retailer Rought Cut Video is supposed to be getting in more of the Bible version. I think that one's limited to 2000 and was an Amazon UK exclusive.

You can join the waitlist at Diabolik for the UCE. I don't recall Jessie mentioning anything on whether they're getting more, but it's always worth a shot.

And not a bad idea to wishlist it on Orbit DVD and keep an eye on their socials.

Mike from Grindhouse Video on his last Sunday YouTube video said he's not sure if they're getting any.

That's all I got.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

A quick subset update...
• It's progressing nicely. There's still 6 of you that have yet to give your picks.
• I'll say 8/18 is the day I plan to have the subset list complete. :fc:
• I'm gonna unofficially put a kibosh on the volunteering. That said, I'll reserve a couple extra spots just in case.
• I don't think at this point I'll have to ask for more picks from anyone. If that changes I'll let you know by sending a PM.
• And as far as trying to cover a bit of everything - I could use a few more obscure picks (something that might be a discovery for some), something family-friendly and some cheesy flicks. We do have some of the latter but it needs to be spread amongst more people.

Anyway, here's the list of subset coverage for every theme. Keep in mind some of them are probably higher, but it's impossible to cross-check them with every list. This is just to give those who have yet to provide picks (or wish to provide more) an idea of what to suggest.

Spoiler:
1. Jaws - 16
2. Name - 32
3. Meta - 20
4. Show - 22
5. Gothic - 21 (another reminder there will be 2 subsets, and one is from one of the volumes of the Italian Gothic books)
6. TCM - 15
7. Location - 17
8. Zombies - 14
9. Wrong Side of the Art - 7
10. Giallo - 11
11. Mashup - 12
12. True - 15
13. Joe Bob/F13 - 8
14. Nasty - 7

15. Defunct - 11
16. Frightfest (Vampire) - 4
Frightfest (Grindhouse) - 6
Frightfest (Werewolf) - 5
17. Chrono (1923) - 4
Chrono (1948) - 5
Chrono (1973) - 7
Chrono (1998) - 7
18. Teen - 19
19. WB - 10
20. Vampire - 15
21. Vidmark - 6
Video - 2
22. Slasher - 30
23. Farewell - 10 (another reminder there will be 4 subsets with this one)
24. Passport - 15
25. Anthologies - 9
26. Sleep - 13
27. Supernatural - 33
28. Werewolf - 11

There's an Indicator Limited-Edition sale at Deep Discount. There's four horror titles in there including a couple of great Mexican Gothic horror films. Code PLUNGE or DEEP10 takes an extra 10% off.

If you're into SOV flicks Vinegar Syndrome has some Culture Shock titles for $10 ($15 with slip). A couple have gone up so it might be ending soon.

And don't forget about the 50% Off Arrow Video sale. It runs until the end of the month in case there's any subset picks included.

The Mist is being released on 4K on October 3rd. Best Buy has an exclusive steelbook that was announced to be $37.99, but when I checked their website, it was listed for $26.99. I don't know if it's a mistake, but I would jump on it if you're interested.

Post #9 is once again updated as of this post. A few dozen entries mysteriously disappeared for awhile, which I'm sure was an error on my part, but they're now back. Also the original link for Frightfest Guide to Grindhouse Movies went dead -- alyxstarr's backup link was there to save the day.

My net is down right now, so can't easily check. So if this has been used before, please disregard. But I just finished watching a great movie on Comet that would fit the Halloween theme. The 1986 Trick or Treat about the dead metal rocker. Not to be confused with the later anthology, Trick R Treat .

Trick or Treat (1986) is not on the list of previously used subset picks. And I plan to watch it that night anyway because it's one of the films I need to complete my They shoot Zombies list. So good idea! :-)

Counting down the days to this Friday, 8/18, when Chad says we'll get this year's subset list. Whoot! Excited to see it and start gathering the films together. I'm at 92% on the Zombies list now and my goal is to hit 99% by Nov 2. I've been watching one a day for several months now. The last 53 I'll watch during the challenge. Last night was The Horde (2009). Decent French zombie movie. The worst one I watched recently was In a Glass Cage (1986). I was not prepared for how disturbing that film was.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 19: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

^Thank you, sir. That solves another missing piece of the subset puzzle.

Quick update. Due to some family issues I haven't been in here as much as I'd like over the last month, but things are getting done. I'll hopefully have a bigger presence in here soon.

I'm still shooting for Friday night (8/18) on the subset list, and the plan is to post it regardless of whether or not we have all the picks in by then. I'm certainly not trying to rush any one, I just wanna keep things moving along so everyone can plan ahead. I *might* also have to ask a couple of people to provide more picks. I'll let you know in a day or so.

And post #9 is once again up-to-date as of this post.

If anyone else is looking for the "ultimate collector's edition" of The Exorcist 4K, which has been sold out, Amazon has some now:
