Breaking Bad does not play on Blu Ray Player

My Samsung will not play BB DVD. It will randomly freeze, then unfreeze and skip ahead, by a minute or two or as many as 20 minutes. All seasons, all episodes and at completely random spots.

My old Sony DVD player I got out of the garage, dusted it off, put new batteries in the remote, hooked it up to the TV and it plays fine. Zero, nada problem.

No other movie or show I have does anything like this. All DVDs play fine on the Samsung Blu Ray player. Only BB has this problem.

What's going on with BB? Anybody???

Do you need a firmware update?

I’m assuming that updates no longer brick Sammy players...

I checked the updates. Non available.

What does "brick" mean?

Here's the article on what "brick" means...

I have a Samsung Blu-ray player and have found that Anchor Bay titles will load fine and then freeze on the Anchor Bay logo. No commands on the remote will work and you have to unplug/plug the player to get the disc back out. It doesn't happen on all Anchor Bay titles but seems to be quite common on the early 1999-2001 releases. The same discs play perfectly fine on my SONY Blu-ray players and standard DVD players.

I imagine it's just something in the software that doesn't mesh-up right.

Interesting. I'm not having any reboot issues, nor any issues at all EXCEPT in playing BB.

I do wonder about Samsung though. They no longer make players, which is not good. I like how the Samsung Blu-Ray player works with the TV, such that the TV auto switches to the HDMI port with the player content when I power up the player. The Sony, I have to use to play BB, I have to make extra steps to get the set to show the DVD content from the Sony. Not a huge deal, but something I have to deal with if I ever want to buy a 4K player.

Okay, I think I figured it out. Or at least I have a fix.

I recently received Downton Abbey complete series in Blu-Ray, and had some jerky audio to get thru during the intro. The main content was fine, but the intro was annoying. Somehow I decided to do a hard reset. Problem solved. Then I thought would this also fix the Breaking Bad problem. And yes it does.

Unplug the player for a few seconds at the surge protector and everything works fine. A Samsung player problem(?), or no longer as they do not sell players anymore. I wonder if this problem was so embedded in their players that they exited this part of the industry?

I just looked it up and found out how to do a soft reset. I'll try that next time this occurs.

Well, crap!!! Same skipping problem, but worse. The video is now crap also. Again no other DVD or Blu-Ray video, that I own does this. Only BB. Surface looks immaculate. I now wonder if there was a bad batch of disks, and there is some internal lamination occurring within the disks themselves. I'm now thinking of jettison this set into the landfill and just buying a new set. I would use this as an excuse to upgrade to Blu-Ray. Kinda pricey so not going to happen anytime soon.

:(

Seem to be a few sets on ebay for under $70. Not bad for the entire series.

I purchased the seasons used (on BR) and paid around $35. decluttr.com currently has most of them on BR (all but S1 when I checked) for around that price.

I'm going to wait til my finance are better and get a Blu Ray set. $70 seems high to me since this series is older. Hell I got GOT for around $70, Blu Ray, a few years ago. That was for the complete set about a year after the final season wrapped up.

Re: Breaking Bad does not play on Blu Ray Player

I finally got around to replacing my DVD Breaking Bad set. Seems to play just fine, now that I am 1/2 way thru season 1. The picture is Bad. I guess I am getting very use to HD quality and the first season of BB is just awful, very grainy. Also a lot of hand held video as I can easily see the picture jumping up and down. Noticeable in interior shots where, for example, a straight edge, like a picture frame is near the top of the video and you can see the gap open and closing.

Still it is a great story.
