Easily The House that Vanished for Larraz. Great atmosphere, but just plain forgettable. Emma was also a bit underwhelming; almost seemed like it was incomplete, and probably due to the 75 min runtime. But Symptoms turned out to be one of my favorite watches from last year thanks to the performance from Angela Pleasence.
I have Black Candles in the to watch pile, and might even check out the Vampyres remake just to see if it's as terrible as everyone says.

I like Black Candles alot... I think it's weird and sleazy and awesome and I didn't think the Vampyres remake was terrible the one time I watched it.

Ever have a movie you love but hesitate to recommend it to others? I was talking horror with a co-worker, and the subject of Mexican horror movies came up. I mentioned Santa Sangre, which she had never heard of. I noticed it was on Amazon Prime, and now she's going to check it out with her family over the weekend! I could be in for an awkward movie conversation next week

Everybody should just stop after Howling 2. And that's only worth watching for 2 reasons:
1. Sybil Danning:
2. This awesome song:

A little bit of off-challenge follow-up for my forum family. It turns out I got my offer on Friday ... It looks like I'm getting a promotion at work effective Monday. I'm officially going to be the department manager now. It's sort of surreal, but I'm excited. This makes me uncertain if I will be able to take any time off this month and more uncertain about hitting 100. I'll need to check. I know that when you first start working at my company, you go on a six-month probation and are unable to take any vacation time. When you officially start a new position, like I will be, you go on probation again, but I don't know if there's a vacation restriction when you're not a new employee. Questions, questions. But I'll be getting an immediate 15% pay bump and another 5% increase when I complete probation.
That raise will help ease things a lot for me, but these sales going on at Diabolik and Arrow aren't doing me any favors in the pocketbook. To be fair, I haven't placed an order - yet. But I have my eye on quite a few titles. Of course one of the Arrow titles I want most is on sale at Diabolik and not at the Arrow sale. I'm an Altman junkie and really want to see his horror film Images. I don't know much about it, but I'm interested in any Altman film. Any opinions from those who have seen it? I'm going to end up ordering it regardless but just curious.
As for my viewing of late, I still am trending toward repeat views at a higher than normal rate. There have been a few that I've really enjoyed introducing to the friends. One friend is a big Stephen King reader but hasn't seen some of his movies. So, last night was the new It, which he had previously refused to see because she hated the miniseries so much. She really liked it, though pointed out it was very different from the book. Then we did brainless shark fun with The Shallows. Yes, at times it's silly, but I have fun with that movie. The UHD looked great. Tonight is Christine and my first time seeing the UHD of that one. Looking forward to it.
I've also been chugging along with the Purge TV show. It started a bit slow, but I've actually gotten more into it as it has gone along. It has probably helped that I didn't start it until this month and there were several episodes to burn through. The idea of the Purge lends itself very well to an anthology show in the vein of American Horror Story, each season focusing on a different year or even a different group of people in a year already covered. We'll see if it continues.

Congratulations clckworang! Enjoy your new probation, and super powers at work. Remember, great responsibility....
Hope you’re able to keep your 100 streak alive. Squeezing films in hint: always keep a film queued up in YouTube on your phone, and watch it in spurts at every stop light, bathroom break, while waiting for microwave to finish, etc etc

Just watched American Guinea Pig: The Song Of Solomon (2017). The Guinea Pig series collides with The Exorcist to give us one sick puppy of a flick! This is by far the heaviest exorcist film you'll ever see.
Nothing really new but the gore is top notch as in the scene where the possessed girl coughs up her own organs one at a time and then eats all of them. Toe Tag does some of the FX if that tells you something. Look for Jim Van Bebber who plays a priest. 3/5.

That was actually a pretty interesting movie. Had a very Blair Witch Project feel to it.
Me, too. I'm getting ready to watch it now. I remember enjoying it last year when I watched it the first time.
On the flip side, I'm gradually making it through the Chucky series. I always feel like I'll find something redeemable in Seed of Chucky. I'm always wrong.

Are you like me? Have you watched so many movies during these yearly challenges you forget what you watched before or you assume you've already watched it. Imagine my surprise when I watched The Howling yesterday and realized I hadn't seen it before....of, if I had, all memory of it was wiped out. (And for a movie with breasts in it that's not an easy feat)

Congratulations on the promotion, clockwrkorang!
If she doesn't love Santa Sangre you should ditch her. It is cool that you have coworkers who can hang in with you in conversation about Mexican horror films - it seems like so many people I run into don't like horror movies.

I watched a David DeCoteau film for the checklist, and wow, was it rough! The cast are all hot young men with killer abs and no discernible acting ability, so as a gay guy one would think this would be my kind of flick, but this is utter trash. Decoteau sets up scenes that I guess are intended to be whacking material, like extended shower scenes and an an 8-minute and 5-second scene of one young guy running his fingers up and down his chest and abs before he gets killed by a bee, but that's all we see. It's like watching a gay porno where the plumber comes, fixes the sink, and leaves. It's all set up, no payoff.

Watched Constantine: City of Demons tonight. Now that is Constantine done right. Puts Contantine (2005) to shame. Don't get me wrong, Contantine has it's charms, but it was always a poser as Constantine: City of Demons definitively proves.
Also watched The Cat (1992) for the umpteenth time. It's still a little slow to start, but once it gets going it chugs along nicely and it features the greatest cat vs dog fight you'll ever see.
Finished off the Don't Hug Me I'm Scared shorts. What a twisted, demented ride. Even though watching shorts is punished by the Challenge, they really are worth a look if you want disturbing dreams tonight.
Finally, I re-watched Will Vinton's Claymation Comedy of Horrors Show (1991). I like it and it's a visual treat, but it never clicks. The protagonists just aren't likeable enough, I think.

Man, I'm a huge fan of Constantine (2005), so I'm ready for more. Getting ready to watch City of Demons now, and I'm drinking the good whiskey.....
Congrats on the promotion clckworang. Be careful what you ask for, as you just may get it. My manager is getting ready to retire, and I have a good deal of stress stepping into his shoes. The added stressor is that I just don't really get along with his boss, so it's going to be an interesting time, no doubt.
We're approaching the half-way point, and tonight I watched Universal Dracula with the commentary. Never tire of this one, and may do Frankenstein tomorrow night. Late night tonight!

Congrats, clckworang!
I always save some schlock-fests for Saturdays and Shocking Dark more than filled the bill. But man, did I ever fall for Severin's clever marketing gimmick with the "Terminator 2" slipcover. Guess James Cameron was too busy working on the 27 Avatar sequels, and never got around to issuing that cease and desist order.
Hey, alright! Now if they'd only update the Facebook page so we could at least have a hint at what's playing.

Also why is everyone watching the gay David DeCoteau films as opposed to his 80's USA up all night TnA extravaganzas? Just pretty suspicious every time I see someone "complaining" about it.
Edit: Apparently I did not read gobear's complete comment, lol.

I fell for the marketing as well. My dustcover is peeling away from itself, and I'm slightly annoyed.
I think I'm the only one missing out on on DeCoteau. My checklist is sadly neglected, and I will remedy that before too long.
I've been swindled into the second Annabelle movie, Help!

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 14th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/
Congrats, clckworang! In this economy it's always a relief to be doing well at work. Hope you enjoy the new post.
I watched 6 films from the BFI Top 100 Euro Horror List yesterday. Inside (2007), Cannibal Ferox (1981), Opera (1987), The White Reindeer (1952), Lisa and the Devil (1973) and The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970). Nice to get so many crossed off my "to watch" list.
The cannibal films are always a mixed bag for me. I liked the story set-up and the 70's vibe on Cannibal Ferox. It actually had good characters, and it's interesting to see the use of real indigenous people in the cast. I always like seeing an asshole get his comeuppance. But I dislike all the animal killing for shock value in these films. (Yes, I know it happens in nature. Yes, I am a vegetarian.) It's easier for me to take man-on-man violence in these cannibal films, maybe because I know it's fake. The ending was nicely ironic. (You know NOTHING, Jon Snow!)
The White Reindeer - I ordered this from ebay. It's an old black and white film from Lapland that looks even older than 1952. It's entirely set in a snowy, reindeer-herding community and is a sort of dark fable about a woman who is is a witch. It's interesting for the setting. I've never seen a film from this part of the world. More gothic than horror.
My favorite was Opera. It's been on my watch list forever since I've been making my way through giallos. Great production values and it looks awesome on blu ray. I loved the opera house setting and the music. Really elevated it for me. The mystery was kinda cool and there are some nice set piece deaths. I gave it 8/10, adding a point for the music.
I'll be gone Weds-Sun for a conference and have a friend staying with me Tues & Mon, so my movie watching will be strongly curtailed. Trying to bulk up before that.

First world problem I guess, but normally when I watch TV on my PlayStation 4, I get a good connection when using my phone as a modem. I had planned to watch Netflix but my connection to it was so slow that the menus wouldn't even load.

I’ve been working in Santa Barbara all week so I haven’t gotten any viewings in. I was hoping the local movie theater would be showing some “classic” horror this weekend, but no such luck. My iPad is on the fritz so I borrowed my wife’s for the plane ride. But I didn’t realize that she didn’t have the TV app installed directly ON the iPad (only in the cloud) so when I went to fire up some of the horror I had preloaded, I was unable to watch anything. And the movies that American Airlines has to offer didn’t interest me. Hopefully the flight back home tomorrow will be more “productive.”
