Today's my favorite theme. Looks like a quiet day so hopefully I can get 6 in.
Question about the comedy cross-over selection - since the challenge ends at dawn on Nov 1, do most people watch Dave Made a Maze on the 31st? I don't think it's required to complete anything in the challenge, but I'd like to get it in.

For those looking at lists, I've done graphic pages for every day of the challenge but hidden them in spoiler tags so as to not make people hate me with a list a mile long. So do take a look at those.
I'll probably go through the lists on Thursday. Last year was my first year, and I looked at other people's lists a lot. This year I've found, between watching so many movies myself, and doing my graphic pages, I haven't had time for that. I'm looking forward to going through and pulling out names of films people loved that I haven't seen yet. This discussion thread has been good for suggestions, too.
Looks like I'll hit around 130 this year even with the conference I had to go to. Already hoping to do better next year.
ETA: Is there a thread like this for discussion horror films outside the challenge? Like, during the rest of the year?

So, here's a question to you all. About to move in with my gf and next year should be the first year I enter the challenge living with a partner. How do all you married/living with someone folks fit in your daily dose of Horror Challenge and not neglect a partner...especially if she doesn't like horror flicks?

I watched Dave Made a Maze already because I dont trust myself to stay awake into the wee hours of November 1; but with subset films you're able to watch them any time provided you do so before dusk Nov 1. The last few years I'd rally for staying up late Nov 1 but failed so consistently I now consider it a curse.

Congratulations. I am in those shoes. I'll scrub the house in late September, which I think helps satisfy the wife. I've explained to my spouse that with all the hustle and bustle of our domestic bliss it helps me to have a bit of time to recharge by watching as many horror movies as possible. In any relationship it's important to have healthy boundaries and do things even if they are nonsensical because you want to, it's also a good chance to reasonably discuss your own time/space. Before and after October I'll take on a larger portion of household duties. I'll ask my wife to pick out some horror movies she's more likely to enjoy (she prefers true crime stuff), including her is important and often makes the movies more fun because she'll point out things I hadnt considered. I usually buy a few little tokens for my wife, maybe an expensive candy, to give her as thanks for being patient. It also helps to take some time off work to lounge at home without other family. With kids it's often the case that we settle on some family friendly dreck so it's more the youtube crazed youth I need to contend with (they are the sequel) - fortunately Ive so far been able to compromise with challenge elegable Scooby Doo or from Disney and more recently, now that my oldest is 10, lighter fare like Willard.

If this challenge had existed 20 yrs ago, I’d be in the 100+ club. My wife waited til we were married to til me she didn’t like horror movies.

There are some really nice lists this time around. I was hoping to be able to put a bit more work into it this year, but I'm barely able to stay afloat by this time.

I swear every other movie I have seen has a montage scene where the character does a Google search or scrolls through microfiche for a key reveal.

I guess technically that theme/subset only counts during the six or so hours between midnight and dawn. But I think one could fudge and include the full ~twelve hours of dusk to dawn. For me, I’m compelled to watch at least part of a film during the technical qualifying hours. If I have to work the next day and don’t want to stay up too late, I’ll start the film at night and make sure the credits roll as the clock strikes midnight. Teeth are already brushed, I’m in bed, put it in the list as that next day, and hope it wasn’t something that will keep me awake.

Dave Made a Maze is not the movie you should watch half asleep rushing off to bed; save some disposable campy trash for that. DMaM deserves more of your attention. I get that some will want to ensure they get November 1 credit but nothing is worse that wasting your prime viewing time for a turd and stumbling on more of a gem when youre half asleep trying to push into a certain to fail all nighter.
I started They Found Hell and fought off the compulsion to finish it because I wasnt brain dead enough for it at the time (turns out early CGI turned me off but They Found Hell got better, not great). Instead I watched Hellraiser: Judgement so the joke was on me (actually Judgement was more lukewarm than I expected).

I have some unexpected time to work on the last two days of the Challenge. We were going to take our bike to storage today for the winter, being it was a nice day. That was not to be, however, as the battery was dead, and it will take all day to charge.

No PM yet from Shack on Prize Pack #3.
Just a weird aside...how may horror movies is Lance Henriksen in???? He's popped up in tiny roles and some medium ones in like 5 or 6 of my watches. Some are only a few years old. Damn the guy gets around!

I watched a really good FTV on Prime, The Witch in the Window. It covers the same dysfunctional family territory as Hereditary, and it is really impressive for a low budget film by a first-time director. The plot concerns a divorced father who has bought a house in upstate New York that he wants to renovate and flip. His ex-wife sends their son to live with him for a while. The father and son try to connect as discover the house is haunted by the spirit of a witch

Well, the nature of my job has changed and has put me on the road so I was unable to participate this year. I did get a few in while I was home last weekend, including Friday the 13th part 3 in true 3D. I came across a fan converted copy. Apparently, the Blu-ray and the DVD utilize different eyes, so he was able to use one for left and one for right eye image. It was very cool to finally see it not in red/blue anaglyph.
As I said, I'm on the road and this month I am in Pittsburgh. Last Thursday, I got off work early and was able to go on a pilgrimage. I went to Evan City and visited the Night of the Living Dead cemetery and then the zombie museum before seeing Night of the Living Dead playing at the Monroeville Mall. While most of the mall has changed since Dawn of the Dead was filmed there, it was still kind of cool. The JC Penny's has moved to the other end of the mall and was actually replaced by the Cinemark theater.
To top it off, last night I got to see Dawn of the Dead in 3D. The conversion was pretty good. At least a half dozen in your face shots that made me blink. This included the opening head explosion. Lots of fun. Hope they finally release it on 3D Blu-ray.

Back from watching the new Halloween, and while I was thoroughly entertained, it didn't quite live up the hype. Maybe that was partially due to the geriatric lunatic behind me that felt compelled to react to every scene with zero volume control. Still, it's nice to see a worthy sequel post H20.
I did order the Audible novelization that runs at just over 9 hours. I'm hoping the additional scenes will flesh it out a bit more and I'll have a newfound appreciation for it.

Due to anticipated poor weather tomorrow (1-2" rain expected) the city moved Trick or Treat to tonight. We had about a half dozen show up. I figure there'll be some true die-hards that'll brave the rain tomorrow but it'll be slim pickin's. I know we won't "be open" for more.
Since we won't (shouldn't) have the door knockers begging for candy I'm hoping my grandson will stay with us while his sisters go to a "Fall Festival" at church. He's 15 and, IMHO, too old to go but his mom did take him along for Trick or Treat tonight so... He's been wanting to see The Shining and I've been holding off watching my new US version BR to watch with him. If not, then it's horror comedy night for the Comedy Challenge cross-over.

Ok Checklist, I am not going to bed tonight until I've complete all your ridiculously plentiful categories... I'm down to just one last one on the deceased field. Those of you who have 100%ed the checklist are my heroes.
Hard to believe it's already Halloween, the challenge blew by this year.
