Pre-Horror Challenge 14: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 14: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl
Same here. Some really good movies I've been wanting to watch and a few others that I've watched before but wouldn't mind watching again just to discuss like Repo.

Yeah, it's one of my favorites. I think if people go in with reasonable expectations and a fondness for schlocky B horror, they will enjoy this one. I think it's one of the most iconic posters ever...so you need to see the movie attached to that eventually.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 14: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl
And here's the subset list (minus one) with the majority in no particular order.
A few classics, modern, psychotronic, gory, Gothic, obscure, erotic, animated, avant-garde, cheesy, a rock opera, and some cocaine-induced ineptitude that's so bad it's good. And quite a few have recent first-time Blu-ray releases and upgrades. Comments welcome.
23. Cujo (1983) - Dog/Bogs/Logs - cwileyy

I don't think I had suggested Cujo... I've never seen it before but have always had it in my "To Watch" list. This is the perfect excuse to ensure that I don't pass up on it again!

Tempted to just watch some of these subset films now, is that cheating? It s almost dusk on September 31 so close enough. "Hey everyone, Undeadcow has already started his list on September 12!" Joking here but I will be at the starting line at 7:51:01pm CST on September 31.

It's a simple fix though, and won't require any changing of titles.
I just need one more thing -- cwileyy - Would you mind giving some picks for Halloween like last year?

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 14: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl
Chad,
So is everything from "Select 30 of the following sub-genres" on down set already and you are looking for suggestions for the blank dashes above that?
These two:
--- Takes Place on a Holiday -
--- Takes Place on or Under the Sea -
Are from last year I think? I had posted earlier suggesting Takes Place in a hospital and you can add Takes Place on a college campus or high school
Also add to my suggestions:
Producer -- Larry Cohen
Directors - Roman Polanski, Jess Franco, Mario Bava, Ron Howard
Speaking of Nazis, one of the TCM movies, The Frozen Dead, sounds hilarious. A scientist freezes the heads of Nazis and puts them on other bodies trying to revive the Third Reich.

No, nothing is set in stone. I'll take suggestions for updated entries, new entries, or even completely new categories. And yes, the blanks need updated names.

A few other thoughts for the genre list...
* A title that's a question (I mentioned this before). Or, to make it broader, a title that has a ! or ? in it. (Repo!, Mother!, Ants!, Who can Kill a Child?, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? etc)
* A film where the writer or director has an on screen role or cameo appearance (Stephen King often does this, Hitchcock, Tarantino, others)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...heir_own_films
http://mentalfloss.com/article/56564...original-books
* Features a teen idol
I just watched Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker with Jimmy McNichol and it was AWESOME. This could include a number of actors including Johnny Depp, Michael Biehn, Lance Kerwin, David Soul, Travolta, Henry Winkler, Rob Lowe, Michael J Fox, Kevin Bacon, etc.

Mystery solved! I knew something was off on the list but just couldn't place it. After reading this post I came to the realization that I a) mistakenly left orlmac off the list, b) gave you the wrong pick (orlmac's), and c) put Dick Laurent on the list after there was already 31 volunteers. So apologies to all three of you.
It's a simple fix though, and won't require any changing of titles.
I just need one more thing -- cwileyy - Would you mind giving some picks for Halloween like last year?

I think this would fit perfectly, and while it doesn't explicitly say that it takes place on Halloween, there are a bunch of jack-o-lanterns and the autumn setting sure makes it seem like it has to be Halloween. However, if anyone disagrees, that's totally cool and I'll think of something else.
