Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 14: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

Can we just do the themes that came up short last year and knock this out today? I’m only slightly exaggerating. It’d be nice to be completely done with everything before September, giving people 30 days to buy titles they need for the various checklists.

I agree with Trevor. We should move up the time to wrap all this up at least two weeks before the start. I find the process of tracking down and preparing my watchlist to be a fire drill last couple of years. At least 20% of the titles picked i end up ordering online.

Yes, last year my 'pile' was a real disaster, and I wasn't able to find exactly the titles I had planned. An extra week would be helpful in the planning...

Theme list looks grand!

I should probably mention that the list on post 28 isn't official. Just a bad joke in response to Trevor's post (agreeing with) where I got distracted with something else before posting a followup.

So please keep the new theme suggestions coming, and maybe we can earn a few extra days.

I could swear we've done something along the same lines as modern horror but couldn't find anything. I'll add this Top 100 Modern Horror Movies link.

The other I'll put down as a vote for a returning theme.

I'll put that down as a contender since we're doing the crossovers via group voting.

And how have we not covered this yet:

Horror Films with Fog

There's obviously quite a few more than the 35 entries on that list, so please do share if you can find a better link. Google searches usually only result in the Carpenter film.

If the Challenge started tomorrow and that was the theme list, I wouldn't be disappointed, I thought it was a solid lineup.

Sync Music Scores should return - if not at a theme night then as a checklist item, it might be interesting to rotate out a musical styling every year (organs, rock, 80s metal, etc).

Theme suggestion: 'no one dies' or 'no one dies on screen' (because threat of death/injury is perhaps too cheap of a 'go to' for shocks at cost of creepiness)
Here's an example list - https://www.bustle.com/articles/1194...dies-on-screen

Yes, we've got Goblin touring/coming around again this year, and I'm planning on going.

I've reached a critical mass of 'complete' series this year, so shooting for all the Friday the 13th films in the month or Phantasm, Ghoulies, Leprechaun, etc. What set is Shout putting out?

So starts the tale of WillieMLF, a man who attempted to watch all the Ghoulies (and Leprechaun) films but was never the same again.

I’m pretty much iOS only when I browse the internet, and these OHMC threads don’t do well in iOS the last year or so. So not that anyone has or will notice, but if I’m more silent than normal it’s because I’m being stubborn that week and refusing to turn my computer on to post here. But I still love you all and this Challenge more than almost anything else. If this post goes thru, have a great planning time everyone!

Another year, another forum problem.

Thanks, I didn't think it turned out half bad considering it was a 15-minute endeavor.

Speaking of which, dogs was never added, and that brings me to Dogs / Bogs / & Logs (spin-off of 2015's "Cats / Bats / & Rats") as a possibility. That is, if you're not big on the Nepotistic Dogs Bullying Scarecrows mashup. Just throwing that out there.

One of my favorites. I'll add it as both a suggestion for returning themes and a checklist entry. I'll also get the checklist suggestions up on post 9 soon, BTW.

Remake vs sequal was done in 2012, but I think it would be good to bring back.

Halloween 2018 (sequel) vs Suspiria (remake)

Wasn't there an 'unauthorized sequel' suggestion last year? Aliens 2 or Contamination, or something in that vein.

They are releasing a [REC] set and a Critters set this fall.

EDIT: Just realized that Critters doesn't come out until November 27.

Didn't see it in the comments thread, but it's always possible I failed to carry it over.

Here's some links (Wiki, List Challenge, IMDB) that aren't exclusive to horror. And I'm sure there's several more because the Italian and Bollywood ripoffs alone should provide quite a few ...especially if you add unofficial remakes to it.

I think the closest in terms of actual themes we've used is Jawsploitation.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 14: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

Needed: link for Horror Movies in Horror Movies.

I mentioned NOTLD being shown in other [horror] films due to its public domain status a few years back. Then last year an even better theme suggestion was brought up to include any horror film. Unfortunately finding a link for this one is not easy, and it's also not an easy list to generate ourselves.

The only current method I've come up with is clicking "connections" and "featured in" on IMDB. Ex: NOTLD. Not exactly convenient to have to do for every single film.

Woooo! Although that particular list is a bit lacking. All the lists are though, maybe forum members can pitch in with anecdotes they have read about films/heard in commentaries?

Add

The Skull
Creepshow
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2
Return Of The Living Dead
Beyond The Darkness
