I’m on my phone, so don’t have links, but here are a few suggestions:

Godzilla Triple Feature
Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla
I believe my third choice is called Japanese Monster Movies. I found it from a Gamera search.

Thanks, LJG. Leave in just a few hours. My flight leaves at 6:00 AM and I live about an hour from the airport, so my folks are taking me and leaving about 4 AM.

Noticed Hamilton Books has The Incredible Shrinking Woman on BD.

https://www.hamiltonbook.com/the-inc...inking-woman_3

I haven't seen it in a long time. When I was younger, it felt like it was on cable all the time. As a result, I watched it countless times and enjoyed it. Probably one of those films that I'd cringe at if I viewed it now. But I'll toss it out there!

And just thinking about it, I am singing the jingle for Galaxy Glue.

Just saw this crazy film. My favorite of 2018 so far. Fantasy and sci-fi tags made me take a chance on it. Had to make sure it was mentioned in this thread. Feels a bit like Brazil, but funnier and even crazier in the final act.

I saw it last week and it was trippy. Probably should have realized it had a fantasy tag and would count for this challenge but I didn't. Gotta go update my watch list.

Thank you again for all the suggestions! It does help me to narrow things down and see what people are interested in. I have submitted the choices to GoldenWheels and will post the final choices when I'm able!

I'm planning on doing this during the Animation Challenge but to be honest, time was a bit short this month from finding out there would be able to prizes to trying to get things organized before the end of the challenge. I did my best to pick out prizes where there would be something that would interest a large number of people! :)

I've personally been able to get a few more viewings than I have been these last few days. I've watched a couple new to me films (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, for instance) and a few oldies but goodies.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was surprisingly not that bad. I'm not a huge horror person but zombies are usually okay with me and I've perused the book it's based on enough to interest me in the movie. It made me laugh more than I thought it would and while it's not the greatest movie ever, it was worth the watch. I thought they did pretty good casting Elizabeth (Lily James).

Anyone else ramping up to finish strong? Don't forget the last day is the animation crossover for double credit!

It helps that I've been off from work this month (even though I did a lot of traveling and stuff with family). I've been able to clear a bunch of stuff in my streaming queues and at-home "to watch" pile. I'm hoping to make a dent in my Blu Ray blind buy of Steins Gate, which has just been sitting around my house for months since I bought it :(

My ongoing streaming project over the last year has been working my way through CW's "Arrowverse" shows on Netflix. While I'm not strictly following the aired schedule for all the shows, I've been following a general guide to handle the big-crossovers. I'm now in the 2016-2017 season (of Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow). I've gotten to the "Invasion" cross-over for all shows (around episode 8) and then finished up the rest of Season 5 of Arrow. I'm afraid of going into the specific series thread because of spoilers. But for those that watch ... what's the general feeling on Season 6 (of Arrow). The show is starting to feel like a chore to watch for me, and there’s just way too many things to watch to stick with shows like that.

On the other hand, I really enjoyed the first 8 episodes of Season 3 of Flash. I'm on the fence about how the 2nd season of Supergirl is starting. I loved season 1, so I'm willing to cut it some slack. But I'm not liking the introduction of a major new character and that's pulling the whole show down for me:
Spoiler:
Mon-El, who I unfortunately get the impression is here to stay :( I'm sure there's probably some heavy-handed "redemption" story coming for him, but for now hating this asshole fratboy bargain-basement Superman guy.

Re: 11th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

I discovered that there is a WiFi hotspot/charging station near where I am in the EAA Campground. I've been watching TV on my tablet while I charge both it and my phone. I have a few streaming television services, and was browsing Sling TV. On the Tribeca Short List channel, there is quite an interesting documentary called American Jedi. It is all about a group of people who truly believe in the Jedi way of life, and seek to be initiated into the Jedi Order. The people were kind of out there, but it was an interesting watch, and had Jonathan Young from Ancient Aliens making some comparisons to other religions.

Also, I saw on my email today that VUDU is hosting an Avengers: Infinity War viewing party. I pre-ordered the movie and plan to join in. I believe it is tonight at 7:00 PT.

Considering how much of the movie [Infinity War] is computer animation, it probably qualifies as animation.

Having seen it, I wouldn't quibble with someone using it for the CGI check mark at all. There are very few parts that don't have it, I would say.

I watched Interstellar for the first time last night. I've always been interested in it, but the running time (just shy of 3 hours) has always been a turn off. I ended up really liking the film and not noticing how long it ran. The beginning was a little slow to start but I really wanted to know more about the family, so didn't really care.

I also watched Into the Woods for the first time tonight. I know there are some musical lovers out there (and some that aren't) so if you haven't seen it, I'd give it a shot. Really love most of the actors who they picked, most of whom have done musicals before. The ending kind of goes in a random direction for a part of the plot with the Baker's Wife, but other than that, I enjoyed it. Had some fun songs in it. I also liked how they took 3 or 4 different fairy tales and mixed them all together.

Warning: For the non-musical lovers out there, it's pretty much all singing, very little spoken dialog.

Re: 11th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

Oh, also was thinking about actors/actresses that we can change up the check list with. What do you all think about adding Natalie Portman next year? I watched Annihilation yesterday which qualifies, along with Star Wars, of course, and the Thor movies. V for Vendetta would also qualify along with a couple others.

Re: 11th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

If there is anyone who wants to watch a really good fantasy and needs a title, watch A Monster Calls. It has Sigourney Weaver and Liam Neeson in it, though the main character is a young boy who is fairly new to acting. It's a bit dark, sad at the end (I cried the last ten minutes and I'm not a cryer) and gives some truths. A brief synopsis I'm stealing from IMDb.com (with one deletion as I think it's a bit of a spoiler): "A boy seeks the help of a tree monster to cope with his single mother's illness."

I would also say it qualifies as a crossover with animation. There's plenty of CGI in it along with computer animated segments.

I vaguely remembered seeing the preview in theaters 2 years ago but I don't think it came to one of the theaters in my town and really don't think it was that popular. It should have been! Watch it! It's good!

Re: 11th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

I just finished a first time viewing of Blade Runner 2049. Well... I really wanted to like it more than I did as the first, original, Blade Runner is a favorite. It's not that it's "bad" but it's just not up to its heritage. It mostly retreads what we've already seen and know throwing out just enough "new" to make it interesting enough to stick around. But it's also too long for the story it tells - too long by at least 45 minutes. It frequently drags. Harrison Ford was good, but IMHO doesn't deserve top or near top billing as he's only in the last 45 minutes or so. OK... so his character is the primary plot point for the movie but it takes 2 hours to fully get there. Maybe like the original it'll get better over time. We'll see... but I know it won't receive as much play as the original at my house.

Re: 11th Annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge Discussion Thread

And another first time viewing that turned out better than I was expecting. Signs (2002) started as just another "Crop circles show up and odd things happen" film that did an unexpected turn. I rather enjoyed the journey.

Another name to consider adding for next year is Emma Thompson. She's popped up in several fantasy type films over the years.

I've watched The Avengers many times. My favorite scene is still when they first all come together in a circle right after Hulk smashes the space whale.

Ok, why did no one tell me I had the wrong year in the opening post?! A little late, but I did just fix that!

Also, can anyone point me to a list of "approved" films? (Hayes code). Thanks!

There doesn't appear to be one per se, but any US movie you pick between 1934 and 1954 should be an 'Hays' film.

But aren't there ones that aren't approved? I guess that's where my confusion is coming from. I know especially towards the end, some studios were just releasing the films without the approval as well.

Yes, but any US film released between '34 & '54 (inclusive), certainly by a well known studio, is going to be Hays approved. Hays actually stretches from 1931 to 1968, but was strictly enforced between '34 & '54.

Here ya go - or at least one for SF films:

https://www.imdb.com/search/title?ge...=US%3Aapproved

The trick is use IMDB's "Advanced title search" - set up your criteria and chose a rating. Once you get the search results on screen *modify* the URL and replace the rating chosen (at the very end of the line following the "A") with "approved" (no quote marks) and reload. BAM! This also works for "M" and "GP" and other ratings used over the years that aren't on the search page criteria selection.

Last day for the challenge! Don't forget to fill out your lists to be eligible for the prizes! Still waiting back for confirmation from GoldenWheels, but once I do, I will pm the winners and post it here. If you haven't already, maybe put this thread on email notification so you don't miss the announcement!

That helps to know, but those edge ones bug me!

I picked Blue Sunshine as my last film of the challenge based solely on the cover. I mean how can a movie with this cover not have been a scifi movie?!?!

I listened to Johnson's commentary track for The Last Jedi for my final entry. I found it informative.

Thank you LJG765 for hosting the challenge. I didn't get to watch as many titles as I wanted due to a reading spree I had to undertake (long story) but I still had fun.

Thanks for a fun challenge, LJG. I'm not quite ready to give up yet. With the viewing party for Avengers: Infinity War coming up on Friday night, I kind of want to make my way through what Marvel movies I own.

Thanks to LJG765 for heading up this challenge. I managed to knock out alot of Sci Fi related titles in my unwatched pile. I finished with a total of 64 viewings, 39 first time watches.

checklist is also complete.

thanks again!

Thanks, everybody! I'm glad to hear that you've all enjoyed the challenge!

I finished up with a fairly bad kid's movie, Tom's Midnight Garden, based on the book. Don't think I'd recommend it. I did, however, get some good first time watches in! Really liked Stranger Things and strangely enough, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I always like to be surprised!

Sorry I can't give a better time line on prizes, but like I mentioned before, have to wait until I get the ok! I will definitely keep checking and get back to you as soon as I can! Please keep an eye out for future updates and make sure you have something listed in your post on the list thread for eligibility!
