Can someone help me?

I am trying to rip my copy of Das Boot The Original Unedited Version. The problem I am having is that is when there is German being shown or talked, there are no subtitles. If I turn on english subtitles than it is on for even the english speaking parts. What can I do to rectify this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I hope this is the right forum for this post. Hope to hear from someone.

As a medevac dispatcher, I’m probably the most qualified person on this forum to helo you. Send a down payment, or insurance pre-authorization, and I’ll start her up.

Sigh. Ignore them. They come from broken homes.

You're not saying that the rip's subtitles differ from the original, correct? Are you trying to make a modified version that omits subtitles for the English dialogue? If that's right, do a web search for "edit dvd subtitles" and you'll get various hits like

https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/...-DVD-Subtitles

I've played with some of these tools but have yet to take it the whole way through. I don't think it's hard, just a bit time consuming.

Hope that helps.

I thought that advice on ripping DVDs was frowned upon here?

Re: Can someone helo me?

I am talking about the close caption. When the movie starts a screen appers talking about the German U-Boats. The thing is it is in German. When I play the movie in my Dvd player an English translation appears on the screen.

It is possible "that's just the way it is". Closed captions are typically controlled by your TV, and I believe there are at best two options. If the DVD subtitles have just one choice for English, then you'll likely get a subtitle for everything on screen. Imagine a deaf person buying the disk. In this case, it wouldn't be the first time that a film with mixed languages got a less-than-satisfactory home video release. "Romancing the Stone" comes to mind. I haven't seen the film in years, but there are several Spanish-speaking characters and I recall complaints about no option to see subtitles for just the Spanish dialogue.

You still have the option of making your own custom DVD, but I won't tread that path any more.

Maybe somebody knows if the Blu-ray is any different?
