Re: 12th Annual Academy Award Challenge List Thread
Challenging myself to only watch films I've never seen. I'll be leaving reviews for my own reference, so don't expect anything useful.
* indicates first time viewing (which better be ALL of them!) January 27th 1. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)* Before pressing play I knew this was just short of 3 hours and I was dreading that sort of commitment. But it was worth every minute. Very curious indeed. January 28th 2. Spotlight (2015)* I was raised in a Catholic church so this really hit home with me in the worst way possible. Amazing watch but I'm definitely angry. Kept yelling at Ruffalo, "HULK SMASH THEM HUNNY!" 3. Training Day (2001)* Denzel was the love of my life until I watched this movie. Since when was he a bad guy? I am heartbroken. And no, I don't want to talk about it. January 29th 4. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2011)* Another 3 hours well spent. January 30th 5. Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) Fine, I lied when I said EVERY movie that qualified in this list should be one I've never seen. I have an odd fascination with Gene Wilder and when I saw that this was on the Netflix I just had to make it happen. 6. Batman (1989) Crap, you caught me in another lie. I've seen this before. This time it was my odd fascination with Michael Keaton that forced me to watch this one. February 2nd 7. Groundhog Day (1993) I just can't NOT watch it. RIP lil homie. Blood sausage FOR LIFE! #wildcard 8. Dunkirk (2017)* This was more intense than my family camping trip. Absolutely terrifying and powerful. I may not be able to sleep without nightmares. February 3nd 9. Up in the Air (2009)* Aww I had so much fun watching this. I'm glad this was recommended to me. 10. Baby Driver (2017)* I hated the trailers but decided to give it a chance. It kept my attention, I liked the music and the cars but I don't really see myself screaming, "omg let's watch it again!" Oh, and finding out Baby's real name was a sweet treat. 11. Dead Poets Society (1989)* O Captain! My Captain! Since when was whiskey the color of vodka in a mason jar? Anyway, I thought this was exceptional. February 4th 12. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)* I now know why so many friends of mine have this movie on their favorites list. I'm mad at myself for never having seen it! Soooo good, like all the fat people food I'm gonna shove into my mouth on this super bowl sunday. 13. Gone Girl (2014) I stumbled upon watching this accidentally with some friends that have never seen it before. So it counts, ok? February 11th 14. Goodfellas (1990)* OMG! This reminds me of the time I saw Ray Liotta eating meatballs in IKEA. Also, I will 100% be talking in a NY gangster accent for the next 3 days. My boyfriend will be so annoyed with me on Valentine's Day because my accent SUCKS. February 17th 15. Misery (1990)* Most movies I'll stop and check my phone, browse the internet, pause for a poop... but not this one. That psycho beast had me like WTF the whole time and I couldn't take my eyes off of the screen. lovelovelovelove. I'm definitely going to purchase it because I am this film's #1 fan. Boing! February 24th 16. The Sixth Sense (1999) Wanted to watch this again because the last time I saw it was when I was 14 or 15. So while I knew the important pieces, I sure did miss a lot of details. Wonder if Brucey's voice box matches his fart box. |
