As I obsessively formulate my attack plan for October, I've found a couple movies that I definitely want to watch that I can't seem to find anywhere but Shudder. Does anyone have any experience with them and know whether it would be best to subscribe through their site or Amazon? Mainly concerned about ease of cancellation, as I only really want it for the challenge.

If you go through Roku, you can easily cancel from the Subscriptions sub page on your account page on the Roku website.

Shudder is also part of a ten channel bundle called VLR or something. $9 a month, but has a generous 30 day free trial last I looked.

If by some chance you missed it (you didn't), the subset threads went up last night.

The links are now included in the hybrid table too.

And for the newbies...

You can always find the optional tables though the links on the first post (here and here), going directly to post #2, in the first post of the list thread, and the upcoming blurb in the headlines section of the upper-middle portion of this very page as well as the DVD Talk newsletter. If you can't find them, you're not looking hard enough.

Since I know a few people here ordered Amsterdamned from Deep Discount during the 15% off sale, here's the Blue Underground disc replacement info if you weren't aware of the issue:

http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=22104

Just received mine and it wasn't the V2 disc. Same for The Stendhal Syndrome.

...tles, rather than waiting until the ship date. We can't reveal what the secret Blus are, but we can say that both are direct to video horror films that were shot and finished on film and have never been available in film sourced editions. One is making its DVD and Blu debut and the other is making its Blu-ray debut, but no past editions of either have been film sourced.

$3.50 per order plus $0.40 per item.

I usually do bulk orders, but they've always come fairly quickly. And definitely well-packaged.

I've been steadily placing orders for some of the subset films. I think I have five different active carts at different stores. I'm getting antsy waiting for some Best Buy reward points to go through. I'd rather place an order with an extra $10 at my disposal. Don't they know the challenge is near?!

I have to remind myself that I don't need to have everything here before October. Ha, ha. I'm trying to hold out into Diabolik DVD has the Blu-ray of Messiah of Evil back in stock. I'd rather support them, but I might get impatient.

I plan on ordering Seeding of a Ghost, Witchtrap and Messiah of Evil. The rest I've either seen, own, or will just catch streaming. I'm still holding out hope that the negatives will be recovered and Alucarda will get a Blu-ray release someday, so no purchase there.

Have you tried contacting Jesse at Diabolik? He's usually quick to respond and might be able to give you some insight on the likelihood of restocking that title. I'm assuming he orders wholesale directly from Bill at Code Red, which can be a slow process at times. Seeing as Bill's online shop is down for maintenance, I suspect he may be too busy to send more stock to Diabolik in a timely manner, but I'm just speculating. You're best bet is to shoot Diabolik an e-mail. [email protected]

And Diabolik is my number once choice for ordering cult blurays, so I definitely appreciate your preference for supporting them.

Three more days of sunrise to sunset work, and then it's full on planning mode. Need to plan my days off better next year, as a day and a half won't be nearly enough time to get things ready in time. There's movies to download to tablets (backup in case of power or wifi failures), subset films to buy, streaming queue to build, comic books to pull out of boxes, a list thread template to create, etc etc

The Code Red Big Cartel came back online for two days recently, and most of the titles were still on sale from the last BIG Code Red sale. You may want to give them a peek if they come back online soon....

I sent a message over the weekend asking about Messiah of Evil and Just Before Dawn. He said he expected Just Before Dawn some time this week but wasn't sure about Messiah.

As it turns out, it doesn't matter. The dog was having a restless night and woke me up around 3:30. I couldn't go back to bed. Dangerous. I checked out at SAE with Messiah of Evil, Neon Maniacs and Nail Gun Massacre.

I'll place an order for some Diabolik exclusives at my next paycheck.

I wouldn't recommend ordering from there if you want it during the challenge. I ordered during the sale, and my order took about a month to arrive. As I understand it, that's pretty normal.

There are some good prices on their titles, so I hate to discourage from ordering. Just do so with the expectation that it may not be here for the challenge.

Oh yes! My last order took over a month. I was just excited that it had reopened for a hot minute before closing again. There were a few 'big sellers' that were not on sale and I'm assuming Messiah was one of the few.

I have this ancient version of Messiah of Evil https://www.amazon.com/Christmas-Mes.../dp/B00006CXG8

Last night I finished my Phantasm box set. Ravager wasn't great but it fit in with the later sequels, for what that's worth. Of course it's awful if you compare it with the first one.

I was hoping my Netflix DVDs would have been waiting for me today, as sometimes I get them the next day after they're shipped. But I'll be going to town one more time before the Challenge starts, so they should arrive this week.

I did my Halloween decorating today. Don't have as much room as I used to have, as I moved into a different room since last year. The room is bigger, but less places to put Halloween decorations. I got a few masks out, a couple plastic jack o lanterns, a skull with light up eyes, and a poster.

Always forget about those cheap multipacks. I probably have it in at least a couple of those.

Same here, but I keep lusting after the Code Red release (it's supposed to be very good). I just can't bring myself to pay what it usually sells for used. Someone needs to do a quality re-release or upgrade.

I might go to a monster movie night around a bonfire sometime in October. There is a Bigfoot Expo near me on October 14. We don't plan to go to the Expo itself, but Friday night, there will be movies around a bonfire. Looking forward to that.

I'll also be going on a haunted hay ride sometime in October, so I have two possible live events.

I signed up on Friday so my card is supposedly going to arrive this week or next. I'm excited but - as with all new things - trepidation that it won't work. I'm putting off seeing It and mother! until I get the card. Hopefully, the latter will still be in theaters.

In preparation I've been looking over my old lists and have noticed a disturbing trend. I usually start out writing a few sentences of commentary after each movie, only to peter out around the midpoint of the challenge. So I've decided to replace commentary with survival speculation! For every movie, I'll analyze whether or not I would survive said movie. I'm very excited about this!

So I was thinking of getting a copy of the "It" miniseries on dvd to watch for the challenge. I never saw the miniseries when it aired on tv, but I know its total running time is over 3 hours. Would it count as two seperate entries since it originally aired as a two part miniseries?

I believe mini series count as one entry per night that it aired.

While it's fresh on my mind, and before I forget...

After last year's challenge a suggestion was brought up [in the suggestions thread] to keep the discussion thread as one single thread as opposed to starting a new one roughly every 800 posts. If you weren't aware, this was originally done back in the day by moderator request. We just kept it going as a tradition. Exiting stuff.

One thread or a new one every 800 posts? Need more feedback, and there's no need to vote if you already have.

And just for the record, I will be continuing the reposting of post 1 (but not post 2 w/ the optional tables) every 800 posts regardless of the turnout. The only difference is, if the thread is kept as one, it'll just be contained within the single thread. Gotta think of the newbies.

We could do it in 2 maybe and start to slowly change the pyramid into a diamond. By 2030 we would just be doing 1 Mega Thread.
