Re: Comments, Suggestions & Feedback for the 2017 Horror Challenge
I am a regular with the Holiday Challenge, and have only done the horror challenge once. I might have the free time this year to do it for the second time. When it gets too hot this time of the year, it gets me excited for fall.

Back up challenge home? I feel like one of these days I am going to try to log on and DVDTalk will just be gone. A few years ago I had the way way back machine archive all the horror challenges just for safety. I guess I could just be being paranoid, maybe the site is making boatloads of cash.

There are plenty of sites that offer free forums that would serve the few hundred participants we have.
Maybe we should set one up now, if nothing else to cut and paste stuff over, just in case.

Re: Comments, Suggestions & Feedback for the 2017 Horror Challenge
Just wanted to mention that, barring unforeseen circumstances, I do plan to host streaming versions of all the subset picks, as I have the past few years. (Via Google Drive again unless someone has a viable alternate suggestion.)
To that end, the earlier the picks are established/confirmed, the easier and less stressful it is for me (and my network connection) to get everything gathered together, uploaded, and checked. Also, with more time, I can hunt down commentaries, alternate cuts, etc., if that interests anyone.
There are other, better reasons for finishing the subset list setup earlier (allowing people more time to track down copies of all the titles themselves, relieving some of the stress Chad surely experiences in the run-up to the start of the challenge), but just wanted to throw in one more motivation for moving that process along as early as possible.

Very cool, I wouldn't be able to complete the subset challenge without alyxstarr's help each year. The sooner we complete the subset list the better, but that means we have to start suggesting theme nights!

I like this idea. While other challenges exist, this has the best people (and the best format). October wouldn't be the same without you guys.

Can we make a couple of the theme nights after October 27th work for the below? Because I know I'm binging this thing.

^Can't wait.
So for the past couple of days I've been hitting the preview post button for the new pre-challenge thread and keep getting this:
Is there a character limit for posts or is the forum going wonky again?

Re: Comments, Suggestions & Feedback for the 2017 Horror Challenge
Mystery solved! After plugging in the first post of last year's thread and actually working, it does appear the text limit was exceeded. Looks like I'll have to chop it up into 4 separate ones, which means reserving around 9 10(!) posts. Anyway, I should have the new pre-challenge thread up tomorrow night.
Also, we do have a fairly plentiful selection of theme suggestions this year, but we could always use more. Share 'em if you got 'em.

Trying to think outside the box for possible theme nights. Maybe something not exactly defined but different for everyone? Like: watch some of your favorite franchise, or watch stuff from the year you were born. I know it sorta downplays the group discussion aspects perhaps. Just brainstorming.....

Watch a film from someone else's list that you've never seen before.

Happened to browse the forum early this year randomly to check in & see the planning getting started already, awesome. Count me in for a subset pick + like the R.I.P. George Romero for Zombie Theme Day + like the watch a horror movie you've never seen from someone else's list idea. Not sure of new theme ideas at the moment but always enjoy seeing what others come up with each year.

Yeah, Bob took my idea (maybe? I'm hoping for some partial credit) and made it a lot better.
Chad,
I've been working on a backup forum to maybe host templates and people's lists and whatever, just to have an emergency place to congregate in case DVDTalk goes under or goes down during a Challenge. I know we have the Facebook group, but apparently a lot us don't use Facebook.
But as our spiritual father, I don't want to step on your toes or reinvent the wheel if you have or would rather set it up yourself.

I should have added a "cite your source" in there too.
