Assume that all of these are available to all customers unless specifically listed as member only like the Welcome Package. Also remember that any preliminary codes are just that and BN could pull it, change the details or exclusions anything prior to release so always a bit of YMMV until the final release date

Seventh Annual Drive-In/Exploitation Challenge April 1-30, 2016

Re: Seventh Annual Drive-In/Exploitation Challenge April 1-30, 2016
Just finished The Swarm (1978), an Irwin Allen magnum poopus; a two and a half hour long theatrical movie shot like a bad tv movie. I did enjoy anticipating how the sundry cast members were going to expire, though. This was the movie that killed these big budget disaster movies wasn't it (for a decade or so, at least)?

Anybody else doing wrestling stars or related movies tomorrow. I'll either watch a few and then hit up a live location for Wrestlemania itself, or just watch a bunch of movie and wait and watch the show later in the week.

I prefer The Naked Jungle (1954) for my rampaging ants. Unfortunately, I don't think it qualifies for the challenge. Or Zanti misfits...

I watched Pigs earlier - not what I expected but a really interesting movie that I highly enjoyed. Now I'm in the middle of Larry Cohen's BONE.

Re: Seventh Annual Drive-In/Exploitation Challenge April 1-30, 2016
So guys, yesterday I found out that Communists are very, very scary. After noticing it on quite a few past lists, I started the challenge with If Footmen Tire You What Will Horses Do?, a cinematic sermon about the horrors of Communists invading the U.S. and massacring Christians. It was all very silly and reminded me of my United Pentecostal upbringing. I cannot really recommend it as anything more than a perplexing oddity.
The film reminded me of Invasion U.S.A. (1952) so I decided to revisit that film. Five Americans get a rude awakening when Communists invade and set about dismantling American society and life. Despite the film's myriad problems, I'm fond of it and find it very enjoyable.

Got a little busy and I fell way behind on making my banner, could tinker with it a few more days but I've got to start my list! (Also maybe I choose too large a background...)
Way Too Big Lots O' Detail Version:
Edit: Oh, does DVDTalk auto scale images now?
Also is Batman v Superman maligned enough to see for the challenge?

I woke up early, so popped in a Three Stooges DVD. I just finished 'Disorder in the Court'. I think this is one of the best of their shorts.

sterlingben the banner is great! love Toxie in the back. I watched Toxic Avenger for the first time a couple challenges back and was surprised how much i liked it.
I missed a day yesterday of seeing anything but grabbed Drive Angry and Attack the Block from the local library to check out today or tomorrow.

I'm having trouble getting into the Challenge this year, and find myself turning off a lot of movies, or falling asleep during them. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to put the fun back in this challenge for me?

What's better than Nazi zombies? I don't know. I found Outpost Black Sun on Snag Films on Roku, so am revisiting it. I don't remember too much about it, but I watched it sometime in the last couple years, perhaps for either this or a previous Horror Challenge.

Re: Seventh Annual Drive-In/Exploitation Challenge April 1-30, 2016
Yesterday, I spent a good amount of time at the Norman Medieval Fair and playing zombie-themed board games with my sister, so I came home exhausted and plopped myself on the couch for some 50s sci-fi. First, I revisited The 27th Day which was just as good as I remember. The film is part of a Mills Creek set that I have, and I was feeling too lazy to change discs so I watched The Night the World Exploded. It's a pretty good natural disaster flick with plenty of stock footage of destruction.
Both films had messages to impart on the audience: a plea to embrace peace and understanding from the former and several brief appeals to be more environmentally conscious in the latter. The trend is in stark contrast to the films of people like Roger Corman who just wanted a space monster to maul people. This made me think about the current state of sci-fi cinema which seems to be mostly big-budget blockbusters or small, ponderous indies like Upstream Color and Ex Machina. Sadly, it seems that the B-movie sci-fi industry is all but gone. I suppose it was replaced with television schlock like Sharknado, but there was an artistry and a commitment (even if that commitment was "we have a spaceship set and a costume - let's make a movie!") in these old B-movies that is lacking in Asylum and SyFy Channel fluff.

That's looks awesome! I sometimes toy with the idea of doing an awesome bit of artwork for my list, but I'm Photoshop skills are pretty minimal.

Not all the time, especially if I have seen it before. But some horror movies are great in the dark (ie Alien, The Descent).

I guess I wasn't meant to watch the movie. :tough: My Roku just rebooted mid movie, and I don't feel like watching it over. Oh well, on to something else.

How well do you know Blaxploitation Cinema?
I missed two. One was just not reading closely and one was just stupid and I should have known better.
Your Score: 95%
Super Fly
You worship Pam Grier and have seen most, if not all, of the blaxploitation classics.
