Anatomy of a Murder - Great film, Jimmy Stewart is one of my favorites.
A Place in the Sun - Great story, lead performances are a bit dry for me. The American President - Enjoyed this more than I expected too, and will probably re-watch more than most of my collection. The Jazz Singer (1927) - Enjoyed the history of it, and look forward to someday exploring the commentary and other discs of the boxset. |

The Orphanage - I think I liked it more in theaters. It's creepy and there's some good jump scares, but it does move a little slowly without much going on. The story just isn't as compelling after seeing films like Pan's Labyrinth and The Devil's Backbone.

Just watched Schindler's List. My third time viewing, my wife's second and my cousin's first. I still think John Williams's score from Jurassic Park was better, but otherwise I think the film earned every award it received. Also, I was a bit distracted thinking that Ralph Fiennes looks a lot like Bradley Cooper.

Re: Last DVD you watched?
My wife and I had a lazy day today, watching four episodes of Jeeves & Wooster. We were unfamiliar with the series, or even the original source material, until we were introduced to Wodehouse's works in a podcast series. When we found out there was a TV show (featuring Hugh Laurie, no less!), we Netflix'd the first season. We loved it, but it was impossible to justify $30 for five episodes. Then, just last week, we found the complete series at Barnes & Noble...50% off! $30 for the entire 23-episode series made for a splendid acquisition.

Re: Last DVD you watched?
Just watched A Beautiful Mind for the first time. With a scant 19 minutes remaining, two friends showed up. Rather than have them talk over the movie, I turned it off. The delay definitely ruined the emotional momentum of the film for me. Score one for theatrical viewing: no one is going to just drop in on you while your viewing is in progress and expect you to place it--and not them--on hold.

I would give it a 7/10. Not as good as the first but I definitely want a third. |
Re: Last DVD you watched?
A Colt is My Passport - Absolutely the definition old school cool and the highlight of this criminally underrated set. I loved the shit out of this movie. Jo Shishido and his swollen cheeks are the epitome of bad-ass. The movie really is not a noir at all. Imagine if Tarantino was a Japanese director in the early 60s and he made a Eastern-crime-spaghetti Western.

G.I. Joe - Resolute - I just love the bat-shit absurdity of Warren Ellis writing a GI cartoon. So much more enjoyable then the unwatchable mess of a live-action film. And so good to see Duke the way he should be portrayed.
