'A Big Hand for the Little Lady' (1966).

Borrowed it from the library - wanted to see it again after so many years. Still as delightful as ever, though the ending no longer surprises. The movie has many strengths but greatest of them is the masterful performance of Jason Robards Jr. That guy was absolutely brilliant on the screen in the 60's.

March 25: A Late Quartet (2012)

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...6b0cee216b.jpg

Good, if often overly-melodramatic, tale of a long-standing classical quartet that faces an uncertain future when their oldest member (Christopher Walken) is diagnosed with a serious health issue. The acting, cinematography, and music are all top-notch.

Watching this godawful collection of shorts that were originally made for the Internet is a really lousy way to spend almost two-and-a-half hours.

Big Deal on Madonna Street, Criterion disc.

A fun little romp, with lot's of character and charm, but not really repeatable. It's one of the Criterion discs I've found at a thrift store, so I'll flip it and thin my collection a bit.

I found this philosophical debate disguised as a thriller to be a lot better than its Tomatometer score (14%) would indicate. I didn't love it, but it held my attention and was worth the $1 it cost me at Dollar Tree.

Yeah, it was strictly amateur hour (well, amateur two-and-a-half hours) all the way. Its last story is one of the most incoherent things I've ever sat through.

So many great iconic scenes and lines. The opening gas station explosion as Clooney & Tarantino casually walk away is classic.

So I watched a DVD of a Showtime movie from 1995 called 'Full Body Massage', starring Mimi Rogers.

I had seen this back in the 90's when it showed on The Movie Network and remembered how impressed I'd been with Mimi's body. She's nude in this movie. A lot.

Anyway, I got a chance to buy a region 0 PAL DVD of it cheap and decided to watch it again.

Whew, she was one buxom babe back in the 90's, I tell you what.

'Myra Breckinridge' (1970)

I remember well that this movie was infamous back in 1970 - supposedly it was "shocking" as well as hated by seemingly every film critic in the First World.

But I'd never seen it.

Figured it was about time - and with the exquisitely gorgeous Rachel Welch in it, how could it not be watchable?

The verdict: Raquel, while having never been much of an actress up till this (in fact, she was a terrible actress prior to it) actually is fantastic in this one. Her acting is remarkably assured and entertaining. Her facial moods and utterances are perfect. And she's as beautiful as ever.

The movie itself, though - totally bizarre, disjointed and nonsensical. To say it's a chore to sit through this script would be a massive understatement. I understand, however, that it has since become a beloved cult film, particularly for homosexuals. So that's a point of interest, I suppose.
