I'm going to a poetry reading in a little bit. Afterward, I'm picking up German food (well, the lone vegetarian noodle dish the restaurant offers and a pretzel) and going to watch something. I still haven't given up finishing the check list! That might mean watching a lot of stuff on Saturday, but so be it.

Ah, the Guess The Screenshot thread. That is where I first tried to introduce the forum to The Killer Tongue (no one had seen it at the time).
Don't you guys feel enriched for having experienced the grander that is The Killer Tongue? I would defiantly put it in the same category as the much beloved Frankenhooker.
Currently catching up with reviews while watching my daughter play and listening to:

..although "graphic" is another of those words that does not quite describe what it thinks it does.* Not least because there's a world of difference between "sexually explicit", "gory" and "disturbing (because its real)" - all of which get bundled under that one umbrella.
Indeed, the ratings system should be wholly replaced with brief 'warnings' (or a word less than "warning") for various things: language, crudeness, fighting-violence, gore, sex, etc. It'd be so much more helpful. But the attempt to do just that seems to have fallen by the wayside.
*I know language changes, and I know that words get co-opted, but there are some that mildly** annoy. "Genre" for SF/fantasy is another misuse.
**"Mild" being the opppsite - people rarely qualify feelings as mild, but that would usually be far more accurate: mild offense, mild amusement, mild disgust...

Sacrilege!
I recall being confused more than amused, but not hating it as much as most.. I think. My memory is terrible, so I'll probably have to watch it again to really form a stronger opinion.

And I have officially hit 100! Woo hoo. It's nice that yet another goal has been reached. Two more goals left to go: keep up with the themes and finish the daily subset films (three more to watch). I can't believe October is almost over.

I'm typically not big on the supernatural/paranormal movies, but I found both Annabelle and Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension very entertaining. The latter was a bit of dupe for the 3-D element, though. I thought I was in the non-3D screening for a moment as the 3D took awhile to emerge in the film and it kind of came and went throughout. The final moments go really nice and old school 3D, with stuff flying at the camera. So, in the end I was happy and this beat the crap out of the new Poltergeit flick.

"+1" [Plus One, 2013] on Netflix is worth checking out for an intelligent abstract movie that blends science fiction and horror elements in a party background sort of like The Butterfly Effect meets the Piranha remake; it's not outright horror and maybe "scifi thriller" is a better term but I think it counts and is a nice diversion from some of the typical bleakness of typical horror movies. +1 is a film that will stay with you.

It's amusing when two seemingly different movies end up with awkwardly similar plots.

Stir of Echoes is rock solid fantastic; plenty of intense startles and a great story.

Thanks! I get bored during meetings and often do a bit of sketching.
This is one of the reasons The Blair Witch Project scares me so much. Sure the idea of the unknown, lurking in the dark, is scary, but more frightening is the thought of being lost in those dark woods. I've only found myself truly lost a couple things (and only once in the woods), and that film reminded me how discombobulating and horrifying that can be.

Didn't hate the 1949 Fall of the House of Usher... but the all-knowledgeable Servant was a bit much! 'The only way to break a curse is to burn the head of the man who placed it.' Oh, really?! Where'd you get that from...?

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. And you don't have to be defiant about it.
After watching Stir of Echoes tonight, I've got this on repeat play:

Also yes Stir Of Echos had a few choice songs. I even bought the soundtrack back in the day. iTunes says I haven't listened to Hello and the title song since 2010, I need to fix that.

I asked about Donnie Darko when the thread went up back at the end of August. I knew I'd get an answer!
I actually thought that the beginning was one of the weaker parts of the movie, and it was only after the beginning that the movie really distinguishes itself from the pack. I'd recommend giving it another shot!
I haven't heard anything good about Human Centipede 3. I saw the first one, which was OK, but better than I thought, and I found the second one to really be terrible. I was already on iffy grounds with those movies, but the bad word of mouth for the third will probably continue to keep me away.
That's a great movie for number 100!

I hope it's not a toomer. But spoilers please!
Others may disagree and count it I guess, maybe a wildcard.
Agreed! My numbering is murky, but I may have hit 200 with Stir of Echoes, which I'm beginning to think is one of the best horror films of all time.
That's a great movie for number 100!

Quick question for all of you. Would either Stir of Echoes or Midnight Hour qualify for today's theme? I haven't seen either one so have no idea if there might be some scenes that would qualify them, and the theme links provided don't have all that many films listed. Those are my last two daily subset films to watch and would love to be able to use them for today's theme.

No. Neither Stir or Echoes nor Midnight Hour have any major scenes with bats, cats, or rats. They are both good though. I'm also struggling a little with today's theme but going for Deadly Eyes and Cat People remake on blu.

I can't see it as happening. Maybe that's the problem. Maybe if I lived in a more urban area? Right now I'm a few minutes away from being able to get on an unpaved forestry road that I could get my car stuck on, if that was my goal.

So, I was watching Burial of the Rats (1995) when they cut to one of the half-dressed warrior women in the background, and I thought to myself, "That looked a lot like Linnea Quigley." Then they showed her a couple more times, and I was convinced it was her, and that surely her character was going to become important to the story. Nope, she was just an extra with a non-speaking role (and yes, it is her, she was listed in the end credits along with the other "Rat Women"). I assume she was married to, or dating someone working on the movie and got a free trip to wherever they filmed it (it looks like New Horizons made several more made-for-cable movies around that time).
Anyone know the story there?
