2013 I watched - Smokey And The Bandit (1977), Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy (2004), Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie (2004)

2014 I watched - Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story

After three years in a row I think this category is ready to retire. (or time to shave it off)

It's not all Will Ferrel, Tom Selleck or Burt Reynolds..!

This list adds Cheech & Chong, Animal House, Ingluorius Basterds Ferris Bueller...

Here, they mention Spinal Tap and Sam Elliott - who was in Big Lebowski as well as westerns.

There's also TV: The Simpsons, My Name is Earl and The Good Guys. Is The Good Guys available? I enjoyed that a lot..

What they said. I kept that theme, since "Movember" still appears to be a thing, but also because I thought it was really easy to find something to watch for it.

I'm planning a Burt Reynolds marathon.

Cannonball Run
Cannonball Run II
Smokey & the Bandit

If I can find time, I might try to do Smokey & the Bandit II, Stroker Ace or Best Little Whorehosue.

I was inspired by your post to rent Cannonball Run II, and Smokey and the Bandit I and II on Amazon Instant Video, as well as ordering the first Cannonball Run.

Without realizing it, I noticed, I'm keeping with theme nights already by watching Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein this afternoon.

Also for funny pages, if you have Hulu, Garfield is on Hulu.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

But I just remembered Dr. Forrester has a mustache, and that makes this category a whole lot easier!

I was tired and fell asleep earlier, but when I woke up, was ready for a comedy marathon. I started with some Three Stooges. I just finished 'Punch Drunks'.

I got an early start to the challenge today with a Little Rascals short, 'Railroadin''.
The old steam locomotive alone made it worth the price of admission to me, since I've always loved them.

If you haven't seen The General (1926), you really should. It's all about trains. Here it is on youtube.

You might also like Our Hospitality (1923). It's a Buster Keaton film with an ancient, odd-looking train (and a velocipede) in it. It's on youtube too.

I need to finish watching the sets I purchased. I'm almost through Volume 8, the last one before the "Rare Treasures" set. It's been a rough slog as I absolutely do not care for Joe Besser in any film, Stooge or not. I've always found his whiny, bratty persona annoying and irritating, even when I was a kid. Next up will be opening a "Rare Treasures" set which I purchased for the 2 feature films and Shemp Howard shorts, although I'll watch the Joe DeRita shorts in that one (skipping the Joe Besser ones entirely).

"The Three Stooges: Ultimate Collection" is on sale at Amazon today (a BB PM) for $22.98 - a *great* price! (link is to Amazon who is out of stock - BB has them in stock for shipping).

It feels nice to start finally clearing some of the comedies I've been stockpiling on the DVR. Wiped out 10 tv episodes yesterday, and aim to do more tonight and tomorrow.

Re: The Fifth Annual November Comedy Challenge *Discussion Thread* Nov 1-30, 2015

I watched most of Series 1 of Coupling and found it highly entertaining. It reminded my quite a bit of the British series Men Behaving Badly. I ordered a copy of Series 2 on the strength of what I've seen so far in S1. The theme song reminds me quite a bit of "Copacabana" by Bary Manilow, which I find somewhat disturbing as I kind of like the theme song but do *not* like any of Manilow's material *plus* it's a disco song - a genre for which I have a tremendous dislike.

I was generally unimpressed with episode 1 but that's due to the use of a obvious laugh track. Starting with episode 2 it was jettisoned, or at least doesn't sound so obvious if used, and the show started to feel more natural.

I also picked back up where I'd left off with the MC "Hollywood Comedy Legends - 50 Movie Pack" I'd purchased. So far the films on the disc I picked up with have been fairly bad. One I watched last night, The Fat Spy, sounded like it might be a James Bond spy spoof film but is really a Beach film in disguise! While generally bland, it's the music (and lots of it) that's saved this one a bit. I was surprised to see Brian Donlevy in a major part but he's mostly wasted, as are Phyllis Diller (who's no great "actress" to start with), and Jayne Mansfield (in a truly dumb blond role). The twist at the end is interesting but not truly worth watching the entire mess to see, plus it seems a bit illogical - as this film has logic from the start.

I started the last film on the disc, There Goes the Bride with Tom Smothers, Phil Silvers, Jim Backus, Broderick Crawford, and other mostly TV actors. So far it looks and plays like a made-for-TV film but I've only seen the first half hour or so. I woke up early and watched a bit before time to get ready for work. At least, so far, it looks to be far superior to The Nasty Rabbit, the 2nd film on disc 4 but only further viewing will tell for sure.

So far the best film on that particular disc was Willy/Milly (aka Something Special) which is a girl "becomes" a boy film. It's rather generic and you know what's going to happen even if you've not seen any of these films before.

I know the set has some very good films included - I've seen many of them. But disc 4 is rough going...

Without even trying, I just knocked out today's theme. I've been working my way through Volume 1 of The Little Rascals this afternoon, and 'Moan & Groan, Inc' had a guy with a mustache who was scaring the children.

Thanks for the recommendation, I have the 2004 Garfield movie. Its been so long since I watched it I had forgot about it I may watch that too tomorrow. I found Garfield and friends on hulu and it seems to be available free but I could not get anything to play on there last night I would get the spinning circle for a few minutes than it would just fizzle out and do nothing. Hulu has worked before and I believe it probably will work again, it may not like my browser or some of my addons.

I watched The Crew (with Burt Reynolds) early this morning it was pretty good its not the best movie he has been in but its certainly not the worst.

Wife wanted to watch something funny and modern, so finally open my Anchorman BD set today. It was better than I remembered from the theater, and my wife enjoyed it too. Our dog is named Baxter ftw!

Darn if there isn't a lot of content on these BDs! If I can make them fit the themes, I'll be re-visiting this later.

So yeah, I've decided why not, and plan to watch at least one theme compliant item a day.

Partway into Anchorman 2: Unnecessarily Long Version (Amazon is offering THREE lengths of film for viewers), and not really seeing the appeal. Is #2 "as good as" #1 to people who like this sort of thing..?

I'm a big fan of Anchorman. Perhaps I should break out my own set this month. I couldn't resist the steelbook packaging that was released last year.

I wasn't planning on watching films for the themes (missed horror comedies), but realized today that Robert Benchley sports quite the mustache.

I woke up in the middle of the night after being tired early in the night. So I started with a theme night pick, Garfield and Friends on Hulu. I'd forgotten that Garfield was voiced by Lorenzo Music, I think.

Re: The Fifth Annual November Comedy Challenge *Discussion Thread* Nov 1-30, 2015

I found myself watching Criminal Minds tonight rather than comedy for some reason, but was able to fit in Smokey and the Bandit II. I picked up the set with all 3 movies on awhile ago and watched the first one last year. I sort of enjoyed it but II...well, I really could have left it. I debated watching the third movie tonight as well just to finish the set, but decided I'd leave it for later in the month or maybe even next year for the theme night.

I usually try to complete the checklist but I think this year I'll be focusing mainly on the theme nights. I figure I'll probably fill in a lot of the checklist doing it that way.

I'll mainly watch what I want to watch, but will try to fit in one theme night viewing a day.

I just finished a Little Rascals short, 'Shivering Shakespeare', that ended with a perfect comedy staple, the pie fight.

I think Anchorman was pretty divisive. The more I think about it, I hated it the first time I saw it. But everyone else seemed to love it, and the clips and catchphrases that followed for years made it seem funnier to me, so I bought it. Actually, who am I kidding, I mainly bought it because of the Best Buy exclusive.

But anyway, I think it's a film that I could either really enjoy or really hate depending on my mood. Last night it worked.

The sequel seemed to get much more hate than love iirc, never saw it.

Anchorman 2 wasn't too bad. WAY better than the faux-sequel (Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie) included in the Best Buy Exclusive of the first movie.

FWIW, I LOVED Anchorman when I first saw it. I can't recall laughing so much in a long time.

That pretty much describes my viewing of the film. My son rented it for us (he, my daughter-in-law, my wife, and me) to watch during a Christmas visit several years ago. I hated it and after about a half hour left the room and went to my set to watch "something good." It's pretty rare for me to abandon a film once I've started a viewing.

I got a bit of a late start today, thanks to running errands this morning, and nap when I got home. But when I woke up, I caught some Teen Titans, Go!, in which Robin turned everyone into puppets.

I missed the original boat and had to catch up with Anchorman just before the sequel came out and didn't realize that it was the source of all those catchphrases. I thought the sequel was OK with some funny stuff but will probably never rewatch it.
