I just discovered that HBO On Demand on Sling TV has a couple DC Animated movies, so I'll still be watching cartoons, as I'm back on a cartoon kick tonight.

(y) I still have a couple that I want to watch. I will probably wait until later in the month as I have some movies rented for the Criterion Challenge, but I'm glad you're still watching, shadokitty! :)

As part of my new comic book kick, I just watched the first episode of the Fox X-Men series on Hulu.

I watched and loved the first two seasons. I'm waiting for the third and fourth to be available on AmazonPrime. When I heard they were doing a sequel series to one of my favorite shows, I was a bit worried about the outcome. Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of those perfect shows that really work for me, and I didn't think the creators could produce an adequate followup. However, it blew me away; the show's a delight and explores a time period that fascinates me.

Book 3 is now Prime; Book 4 is still, unfortunately, only available as Amazon Video. There's supposed to be a complete box set, blu/dvd (maybe), coming out in the fall, perhaps...the details are kinda vague.

Huzzah! Thank you for the information. I know what I'll be doing this weekend! I was hoping we would get a complete boxset; that's one of the reasons I've been putting off buying the seasons.

I'm taking a few days break from the Criterion Challenge, so I think I'm going to start working through a few of my anime series.

Last night, PBS ran Part 1 of The American Experience: Walt Disney. Tonight is Part 2. It's, in total, a four-hour documentary on Disney. It would have qualified for the Animation Challenge. Too bad it's late by two weeks.

I watched Part 1. Could it have been better? Yes. But there's a lot of good early footage and photos of Disney in his start-up days. There are even three animators left who worked on SNOW WHITE who are interviewed in the show. They must be nearly 100. Some of the other talking heads are just academics or writers who've only read about Disney. I could have used less of those.

Maybe it'll be on the PBS Roku channel, so I could watch it from the beginning.

That explains why I saw cartoons instead of Civil War stuff on PBS last night when flipping through the channels.

I watched it too. I was impressed that they seemed to be trying at least, to show Walt Disney's good AND bad sides. Probably will watch the 2nd part tonight or tomorrow. I'm surprised that Leonard Maltin hasn't showed up yet, though.

The second part seemed to be mostly about Disneyland. Surprisingly, Maltin never showed up. That's a curious omission. He knows as much about Disney as any of the authors and historians featured and he's got the seal of approval of the Disney corporation. I wonder why he wasn't included. I've read The Disney Version, by Richard Schickel and now I want to find the books by Neal Gabler and Michael Barrier, but they seem to be hard to find. Yesterday, I did pick up a book, "The Magic Kingdom: Walt Disney and the American Way of Life," by Steven Watts, one of the historians who gets a lot of screen time in both parts. It's out of print, so that was a good find. (Thank you, Strand Books!) Schickel, Gabler and Barrier are also among the talking heads in the documentary and I preferred them and Watts to some of the others featured.

Interestingly, on Tuesday, before Part 2 ran, I caught SAVING MR. BANKS on Encore. First time I'd seen it. Interesting movie and worth seeing for people interested in Disney. I have some criticisms of it, but how often do we get to see Disney dramatized on screen so vividly (and by Tom Hanks, no less)? It's basically part of the Disney mythmaking apparatus and I'm curious to learn how far from reality it is. (It tells the story of P.L. Travers and her reluctance to sell the rights to "Mary Poppins" to Disney, who finally wins her over--but just barely.)

I'm still regretting not purchasing Shaun the Sheep S1 TV series before it went OOP and prices skyrocketed! I'd avoided it because it was produced in WS but made it to disc as FS versions. Bummer. Still, I now wished I'd have picked it up anyway. Oh well... if the movie is a money maker maybe they'll do a proper re-release.

Sorry for the bump. For those that have Netflix and can switch regions, Netflix Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark have Shaun the Sheep TV seasons in their catalog (2007-2014). I saw it on Netflix Sweden and remembered the high praise that you guys had in this thread about the show.
