Once Upon a Time in America - which version is most worth buying?

I'm debating between getting the special edition and the directors cut. I've heard that the added workprint scenes in the directors cut are of poor quality because of failed transferring, does this detract from the overall viewing experience? I heard it also has a yellowish filter to it which worries me.

Those are my only reasons for being hesitant to get the directors cut, otherwise I'm all for it because of the backstory scenes being included. The length (251 minutes) doesn't bother me at all.

go with the director's cut, the additional scenes really flesh out the story. btw, if you didnt know the director of this film is the same director that directed the clint eastwood westerns
