A Month In The Country

Hello. Can anyone explain this to me please?

For a long time I have wanted a DVD copy of "A Month In The Country" (one of my favourite films) to replace my old video tape, but have always been put off as they usually cost £30+ from Ebay and Amazon. This is the one with a dark-coloured cover and a picture of Colin Firth.

So when I recently saw one in a beige-coloured cover with a picture of Colin Firth and Kenneth Branagh together on a tombstone in the graveyard on Ebay for £8.99, I grabbed it. However, since it arrived I am suspicious about its "provenance". The cover seems to be printed fairly amateurishly and there is no mention anywhere of which studio produced it, and although I bought it "sealed", this was no more than a cellophane envelope with a self-sealing strip across the top.

I have watched the first five minutes of it, and the quality appears to be no better than my video tape.

Have I unwittingly got hold of something which I shouldn't?

And why do DVDs of this film cost so much?

Many thanks for any help.

Because it's a bootleg and not an official release?

There is an official release from Cinema Club UK. Since it is out of print now, it is expensive.
You should have bought it a year ago, when it was less than £10...

Thank you Manicsounds. Yes, I was afraid that might be the case.

Thanks also for the other info - I too wish I had acted sooner.

You could also go for the limited edition Blu-ray release from Twilight Time
