Any Known Problems with 2001: A Space Odyssey?

Specifically, disc 2 (the bonus features) of the 2-disc Special Edition that has been out for several years. Tried to play it today, dead on 3 different machines. At least disc 1, the movie, plays fine.

Guess it's time to upgrade this title to Blu-Ray!

You won't regret it. That film was made for Blu-ray.

Sounds like a rotted disc- happened with a few Warner DVDs.

Did the disc play previously, or is this the first time you've tried it?

It's 2015. The movie's outdated anyway.

I don't remember seeing any of the special features, so I guess I never bothered to check the disc before. That's not usually something I neglect, but it has been a few years since the purchase. Maybe, like HAL, my mind is starting to go...

I had the DVD version from a few years ago. And considering what spectacular SF eye candy this movie presented, it looked pretty poor--a muddy, dull transfer to DVD lacking any crisp detail. I was glad to get rid of it for the Blu.

2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY was the first movie I watched in Blu-ray.

It was actually the first movie I watched on VHS, on a rented VCR.

Re: Any Known Problems with 2001: A Space Odyssey?

I watched it panned-n-scanned on a 13" color TV! With commercials!

But the weirdest viewing was when the Astronomy Dept. at my university sponsored a screening back in 1985 or 86. They did not have the right anamorphic lens for the projector, so the whole movie was shown "squished!" Best moment was when the two guys greet on the space station, and one says, "You're looking well," (or something). Audience member snarks, "You look thin, have you lost weight?"
