I've started a little challenge for myself. Over the years, I've accumulated quite a collection of Mill Creek sets, mostly movies, but a couple TV series as well. I finally decided to watch all of my Mill Creek DVDs. While I may rewatch certain sets for particular challenges, if I happened to have finish the set already, I plan to keep cutting down the unwatched portion.

I thought about trying to watch one set for each particular Challenge.

I started this idea last October with one of the horror sets. After 7 of 8 movies being almost unwatchably bad I realized that historically all of my ideas are bad. I may watch them bit by bit over the years, or I may just donate those things.

I've used my Mill Creek sets in various Challenges. I watched several movies in the Combat Classics set for both the B-movie and Historical Challenges one year, a bunch of TV westerns for the TV Challenge one year, and several B-westerns for the B-Movie and Historical Challenges the next year. But it gets too wearying to slog through so many bad prints one after another and I simply have to mix it up and turn to my legit box sets to see some clear images.

The Combat Classics set was the most rewarding so far and had better than average prints. Ultimate TV Westerns has a wealth of riches, but the prints tend to be worse than average. Luckily I've found box sets of several of the shows featured that have much better quality (and are pricier, of course).

I'm starting off with my favorite set, the Warriors set.

I thought we finally hit the point where someone was going to suggest a new challenge that overlaps with another. I would have voted yes.

I am a big fan of the "Pure Terror" set.

I have lots of their stuff and most have enough "good" titles to make it worth the effort. I really like the "Warriors" one with all the peplum. That's one I'd have sworn I watched but can't find any record of doing so! Still I know I've watched *some* of the films on that one!

Their biggest problem is with the somewhat large amount of overlap on many sets, especially if you pick up a 20 film set and later purchase a 50 film set in the same genre.

I have a couple of 50 film Comedy collections I totally forgot about opening for the last Comedy Challenge!

I watched the first film in the Pure Terror set for the horror challenge. Don't remember much now, but I know I enjoyed it.

You just *had* to mention that one, didn't you!

Years ago when I was between jobs my best friend (a disabled Army/Marine vet) and I would start the day with a beer (we made sure to save one from the night before just for the occasion) and a old war film (a local station aired one every morning) before heading out to pick up another case so we could sit by the river, drink, talk, and watch the water go by. Good times...

Many of the films on that set sound like what we'd have seen during that time and it's currently on sale for ~$10 at Amazon... I may just have to spring for that one.

I just bought that set for the Horror Challenge last year. Got maybe 2 or three movies watched.
