Does anybody disagree that The Blob would count as "extraterrestrial" since the Blob came from a space meteor?

Just wanted to point out that the TCM app (Android AND Apple) lets anyone who gets TCM on their TV (and who knows their TV provider login information) watch TCM "live" on mobile and pad-things and has an on-demand selection to watch whenever (for a week).
This week, the Blaculas and a Hammer Mummy are available.

Don't know if it has to do with my folks going out of town, and my being left to run the home business, or just missing them in general, but as soon as my folks left for their trip this afternoon, I've been down in the dumps. Probably going to slow down on the challenge for a couple days till they get home. I love horror, but I never found it good if I was in a blue mood. Maybe that's why I spent the night watching DC super hero movies and tv last night, thinking about them leaving. Which btw, I know not to count.
Re Van Helsing, count me as liking, it, stupid movie, but enjoyable popcorn flick.

I'll give it a go. Might as well use these redbox coupons.

I can always try to find Halloween Three Stooges on youtube. I think I exhausted the Halloween Three Stooges I have on DVD by watching Spook Louder. None of the others on my DVD really seem to count, though one short deals with a ghost.

I seriously need to stop falling for titles from Twilight Time, Code Red, etc. just because they're "limited edition" and do a little research beforehand. There's good reason why some movies were long forgotten. Bruce Campbell battling cannibalistic mutants (led by Angus Scrimm) sounds like a no-brainer, but Mindwarp was the most excruciating exercise in post apocalyptic mayhem since that shitty early 2000's direct-to-video flick starring David Carradine I can't recall the name of. At least The Blob '88 is on it's way to wash away the bad memories.
And I have another one from Vinegar Syndrome in the to watch pile - Runaway Nightmare. Any opinions before I possibly make the same mistake twice?

I looked up Halloween themed Three Stooges and found 3 more shorts I have. The one I mentioned earlier, and my Shemp set has 2 more. At estimating about 20 minutes a short, that leaves me 10 more minutes to fill for an entry. I'll look at the links provided in the pt 2 thread.

After Afflicted, Possession of Michael King, and now Wer back to back I think I have a shacky cam found footage induced headache even if the films were of good quality. If you've got RedBox coupons The Possession of Michael King isn't bad either - over the top but despite some hamminess ends up eerie and intense; it doesn't pull any punches with a gleefully evil vibe.

The Monster Squad and Gremlins are my go-to films when feeling down. Just stay from Fulci and the like.

The Sacrament was a pretty interesting flick based on Jonestown. I am a fan of Ti West's House of the Devil and the Innkeepers, people who didn't like those films probably won't like this either. I just enjoy his slow burn style, what he lacks in energy he makes up for with characters and atmosphere. People who are familiar with Jonestown may find this movie to be redundant, because it plays out exactly like Jonestown, it was before my time so I thought it was interesting to watch it play out in the movie. It looked pretty good for a found footage movie and wasn't too annoying with the standard cliches. The highlight of the movie of course was Gene Jones as the Father.
I watched The Burning for the first time and was pleasantly surprised to see Jason Alexander pop up as a wise cracking teen. The opening prologue was really effective and it scared the hell out of me when the burned up hand reached for the doctor, I loved it. The film drags for a bit, but the famous paddling/canoe scene is pretty great. The film is pretty good, if not as enjoyable as Sleepaway Camp, it definitely has a great villain in Cropsy. I was bothered by the weak editing during the finale, they recycle several shots, and I noticed immediately, but I really liked the shots of Cropsy lurking around with the flame thrower. Some of the male characters were really, really aggressive when it came to their sexual advances, I just felt bad for these women.
Jug Face was certainly very interesting. There were some disturbing scenes, and an intriguing story about a crazy backwoods community that worships a pit with the power to heal them, if if they make regular sacrifices. I was surprised to find out the guy playing the dim-witted potter was the Father in The Woman, pretty good performance as I didn't recognize him at all. The main character of Jug Face was the daughter in The Woman, and I think she does a good job here. You feel her vulnerability and that element of the story is reminiscent of Rosemary's Baby. I can see this as a really frustrating viewing for some people, especially the end. I found it to be difficult as well, but the more I think about it, the more I like it. It actually makes the whole story creepier if

RE: The Van Helsing discussion
I want to be clear that Sommer's bloated movie is enjoyable to me, but I would never recommend anyone watch it. I don't want anyone to smack me for putting them through 2+ hours of silliness! FYI, one of the Face/Off judges contributed character designs; let's hope for his sake he was instrumental in the conception of the kick-ass Frankenstein's monster and not the horrendously bad vampire brides.
The film also got a very nice steelbook release with great cover art.

Spoiler:
I was going to use it for that (I did count it for "Before They Were Stars" and "Monster/Creature Feature"), but I decided to watch The Green Slime (another sci-fi flick with a great theme song) late last night, so I used that instead (since it has extraterrestrials and takes place in space, so it covered both parts of the checklist item).

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 10th Annual October Horror Movie Challenge (Oct 1-31) Pt
Spoiler:
I watched these last year in release order for the Horror Challenge and it was quite fun!
While watching those films I discovered my tcm "Universal Cult Horror Collection" MOD had a bad disc and contacted them for a replacement of *just* the one bad disc. As it was past their *very* limited return/replacement window they refused in spite of my arguments that it was a sub-par, and over-priced, MOD so they should be more willing to work with me. After being told "no" several times by lackeys and a "manager" (I'm persistent in such matters) I turned to Universal who agreed to replace the disc and subsequently discovered that, while it's a Universal title, they were not the distributor! They worked as a intermediary with tcm who *finally* agreed to replace the disc as a "one time courtesy." The replacement was the *single* release version and was pressed! That makes me think *all* those titles in that set could still be pressed as they are even more over priced as singles (~$20/each with the set often going for as little as ~$40). I'm not curious enough to try myself unless other titles in that set go south on me.

Would They Live work the challenge? Been looking at this on my shelf for a while.I would like to see this again. Don't want to waste time viewing something that wouldn't count on my score.

Sure it does! Even if it doesn't feel like horror to you, imdb has horror as one of the genres so by the rules it has to count. Good movie too. Just make sure that Roddy Piper doesn't run out of bubblegum.

Thanks for the opinions on Final Terror and Without Warning. I'm still debating a purchase on the Scream Factory site. Hmm ...

OK... all you talking about the "bad" films you've endured. I bet you would be hard pressed to find anything as bad as Blood of Ghastly Horror (1967), a film I watched last night. It has it all: Bad acting, lame script, muddled plot, totally inappropriate music, horrible cinamatography, abysmal foley work, and more. John Carradine is totally wasted, and badly directed, in a superbly lame "Evil Doctor" role delivering extremely cringe worthy dialog, as is Tommy Kirk (Disney kid actor - The Shaggy Dog and more) as a police Sgt. Those two must have really needed a paycheck, or owed some odd favors, to get roped into this mess.

Despite appearing in some classics, John Carradine has appeared in a large number of stupendously crappy movies. Especially in the 60s and 70s.
