When time ran out... Paul Newman DVD Running time

I was looking at buying the oop DVD which seems to be the cut 109 min version, however on the Warner Archive store they list the running time as 121 mins, which was the theatrical running time.

Does anyone know if this is accurate, has this oop disc been re-issued with the theatrical cut?

Thanks

The listed 108 min. running time is, unfortunately, all too accurate. It is a cut version of the film. I only wish Warner had decided to release the 144 minute cut of the film, as had been issued in the '80s in a dreadful pan-and-scan VHS clamshell edition. Note that Warner *did* release THE SWARM in the extended 156-minute version on DVD in 2001-02, so I'm truly at a loss as to why they didn't release WHEN TIME RAN OUT in its longer incarnation. Could be something stupid, like needing to cut costs and distribute the film on a single-layer DVD, as the longer 144 minute cut would need a DVD9 to be in optimal quality.

From the Warner Archive Collection Facebook page:

Q: Any chance that WHEN TIME RAN OUT could be re-released through WAC in it's longer 141 minute version that was only available on VHS?

A: Unlikely. That cut only exists on 1" videotape, and the costs to re-do properly for today's technology are much too high...at this point in time.

Still an excuse. I'd be happy for a direct transfer of that 1" videotape version to DVD, so at least we'd have a digital version of the longer cut. The question is, would it be a P&S transfer on that 1" tape? As it is, with that attitude of Warner's, the 141 minute cut will probably rot in obscurity.

Again, from the Warner Archive Collection Facebook regarding the 121 minute Theatrical Cut:

Q: Right now I'm just trying to ascertain if the current 109 minute DVD was a mastering or manufacturing error that was never corrected because I'm getting a distinct feeling that they (WHV) are under the impression they released the 121 minute Theatrical Cut. Where is the missing 12 minutes?

A: The film was cut down during its initial theatrical run. Film elements were conformed to this shorter length. To get back to any other version other than what is currently in distribution would be very costly and is unlikely to happen.
