Not an article but you might like this book. It's not all horror but it comes in a VHS like slip case.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 8th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

excited to be joining in again this year (changed name from flipflopchic) i had an absolute blast last year even though i was nowhere near 100. vowing to do better this year

bigluelok - i'm sure not all of them will be from netflix, but a bunch will be. that's my main source of movies. i will be watching your list to see what's on (thanks in advance!!)

i'm bad about watching newer horror movies (like saw, hostel, the ring, etc) but i always watch the original halloween , the exorcist and texas chainsaw massacre. they are must sees in my book.
but i also like to venture off and try new things or other people's favorites.

Yep. Only worry now is the cabin fever sitting in a few weeks. But I'm back now. Pretty much.

Anyway, here's my jumbled whiny rant about the bad parts of the experience complete with an oozy wound pic:

Spoiler:
The surgeon said my quick recovery was "above the curve", so I was discharged after 3(!) days instead of the usual week or more. That, despite having unexplained massive blood loss during surgery that required three blood transfusions, low blood pressure and a bout of fever complete with shivering that started on discharge day that I still can't quite shake. And the discharge itself was up to the physical therapist, who based this on the fact that I was able to walk down the hall on my own and climb up three stairs.

The ride home. How they shoved my 6'3" ass into a tiny little compact SUV when I can't bend or twist apparently involved breaking the laws of physics. And when you have nothing on but a hospital gown and a knee-length robe with the wind blowing furiously, well, I'm sure a few people saw things they didn't really want to. But one thing I've learned from this experience is that modesty goes right out the window and honestly you don't really care at this point. Next came the 3+ hour bumpy ride home and that was easily the second most painful part.

Fast forward to this past Friday and I'm feeling much better and about to slowly get back into the swing of things ...just need to call in a new prescription being it requires doctors approval. That's easy, right? You just call a switchboard operator at the hospital, ask for a resident surgeon to call you back and there you go. Yeah, to make a long story short I called early morning Friday and didn't get word back until Sunday at 6PM. Must've called 10 times and didn't get the actual call back until persuading my cousin who's an MD to call them for me and perform his secret doctor handshake to get results. That means I went over 48 hours without any pain medication whatsoever for a procedure that has most people on them continuously for 3 months. I could only describe the pain as being caught in a giant vice grip contraption you'd probably see in one of those stupid torture porn films. Honestly, I think I was reaching insanity levels up there with Jack Torrance for awhile and not being able to sit, stand, walk or lay down for more than a few minutes only further contributed to it. All I'll say is when my brother finally arrived with the Walgreens bag I felt like a kid on Christmas morning. And I never got an apology for the massive wait, just a "we don't normally do prescriptions on a weekend, but since you just had major surgery we'll make an exception" response. Didn't realize Friday morning was considered the weekend, but whatever.

But all bitching aside, I was really blessed to have a great hospital staff and friends and family that went so far above and beyond what they had to that I get a little teary-eyed just thinking about it. Not to mention this thing is gonna be life-changing for me, so absolutely no regrets.

And because it didn't actually happen without a pic:

Spoiler:

Taken yesterday. The bandages were just removed for good although the Steri-Strips have to come off on their own. And just for the record:

-I'm not a vampire. The pale and sickly part is normal.
-Same goes for looking a little skeletal. Weight loss is inevitable (and I'm a skinny guy to begin with).
-That's not a tramp stamp, just adhesive leftover from the bandages.

I actually have another future scar from a bone graft incision around my right ass cheek but I'll do everyone the favor of not showing that one.

Now let's get back to business.

Picked up Event Horizon today for $10. That will be another first time watch, and it will actually fill two places in the checklist for me, both takes place in space, and blu ray for format. Incidentally, this was my first ever blu ray purchase.

My friends and I have a pumpkin carving party every year, so there will be some cool carvings. I haven't decided what to do. Last year I did Lon Chaney Jr's Wolf Man. And on the last Saturday of the month we're having a Halloween party.
I will be there as well

I would strongly recommend against trying that. There have been a couple of years that I watched a lot of streaming titles, many times based on shorter run times or fun looking poster art, and there are some embarrassingly bad titles on there - and not in the good way.

I did that with Hulu a few years back. Never again. I think I managed a few days before I stopped. I think Netflix wouldn't be so bad as long as you were picking selections and not just doing it at random.

Welcome back! That's an intense picture and story. Note to self, avoid spinal surgery. Congratulations on your quick recovery and getting "out of the woods." Now my back hurts... good luck on a continued above curve bounce back.

Event Horizon is a favorite of mine, nevermind some dated graphics it's got a lot going for it with good tension and a gonzo ending. I can't imagine it'll be easy waiting until October to watch your first blu-ray.

Welcome back!

That photo makes my 1/2" scar from a micro-diskectomy look like a paper cut! My ride home was about 15 minutes and was bad enough. Looking at that incision I can't imagine a 3+ hour ride home! Hang in there... it *does* get better!

I LOVE that movie. I need to track it down and watch it again. It's been too long.

Glad to see you're doing ok Chad. That sounds like a pretty miserable time that you toughed out. Get ready to enjoy some great movie watching in a few short weeks

Yeah, Chad, you survived!

1) Welcome back.
2) Pain killers are great, but don't get addicted.
3) Now that you've got a boasting scar you can make up a story and say you survived an attack by Jason or Freddy and you'll be a hero to all the kids in the neighborhood.

Honestly, I don't even remember buying any Horror DVDs/BDs last October.

There was one year a couple years ago where both Deep Discount and Amazon where having amazing sales. Stocked so much on stuff I wanted around then.

Welcome back Chad! Great to hear your recovery time has been above the norm.

And I've always kind of considered you my Easter Bunny of the Halloween Season!
