What I mean is: what DVD release in the last 15 years *really* got creative with medium's interactive format and maybe even packaging. I'm thinking of a DVD movie (or TV show) that goes several steps beyond being just a movie put on a shiny disc. My pick would be the 2-disc limited edition Memento. That was some real thinking outside of the box (however I could have done without the puzzle menus)

How about the big Blade Runner set? Esp. if you got the briefcase set. All the versions of the film plus the docs and the fantastic way they put together the deleted scenes like anmini-movie.

I would like to add the 2-disc Dogma set. I know some people may have issues with the movie itself, but please hear me out. I mean from a design standpoint--the physical and digital packaging are superlative. The packaging is clever (making it look like a Bible inside the slipcover. And then you have the intro screen with the Bible being fast forwarded past the Old and New Testaments to the "Book of Dogma" which is so organic to the witty irreverence of the movie.

I'd also like to put up the 2-disc Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown from 10 years ago. The packaging with it's inserts are the creme de la creme of what good home video should be.

It seems like the early to mid-2000s were sort of the "sweet spot" of DVD, and that's a shame.

For packaging, I have to go with the lifesize T2 Endoskull blu-ray set. For the creative-ness of the menus, I like the bonus features disc of the Nightmare On Elm Street "complete" set from a few years ago. More menus I like are the Haunted Mansion and Knight's Tale.

My guess would be this:

It's The Wizard of Oz DVD. You then sync it up with The Dark Side of the Moon.

The anime series R.O.D. (Read Or Die) had a special book packaging that fit in very well with the main characters being bookworms and their special powers.

DSOTM spent 1500 weeks on the Billboard list of top 200 albums. What DVD has been a consistent top seller year after year? I'm guessing it's a Disney title.

DSOTM was not about the packaging. Sargent Pepper and Physical Graffiti had better packaging. But DSOTM was technically superior, back when people cared deeply about audio quality. What DVD was technically superior? How about Terminator 2 Ultimate Edition with seamless branching?

Didn't the original release of The Matrix sit near the top of the chart for over a year or something? Thedigitalbits used to show sales figures, but I don't know if they'd have that archived.

If you are counting second hand copies, I have first hand knowledge that just one used shop sold 19 copies of "White Chicks" last year alone.
