I was just looking at the Get a Life set on Amazon and listed in the "frequently bought with" section was Steve Martin: The Television Stuff, out on Sept. 18. I did a double take as I was scrolling down the page because I had no idea such a set was being released.

Shout! Factory really is doing the Lord's work with their releases. I watched "Comedy Is Not Pretty" many, many times when I was a kid. I still have it on an old VHS tape and have been meaning to digitize it. But I'd much rather have a cleaned up, official release! I am so happy right now.
(Forgive me if there's already a thread about this set. I searched and nothing came up.)

I got this set on Tuesday and am just now going through it. I love having "Comedy Is Not Pretty" on DVD (finally!) and am playing it right now, but it's strange. There's canned laughter added to this special. Maybe it's just my memory, but I *swear* it didn't have that when I saw it as a kid. I'll have to pull out my taped copy of it on VHS and confirm.
Hmmmm. No laugh tracks on these clips that I found:

this is a must have for me. I remember when Steve came to Houston in the late 70's I went to 2 shows in one day. (They added a matinee that I got better seats for). I have the old VHS tape, which I believe is on this release too?

My brother nearly crapped himself when I showed him this, as he's a big fan of Steve Martin's stand-up.
Releases like this are why Shout is awesome.

I was the first in line to order this, cause I love Steve Martin.........................boy, was he ever corny! A real cornball, was he! That HBO special...all he did was false starts for like a half-hour...it was very dry - a little too dry.
Now, I'm willing to admit that maybe, just maybe I wasn't in the best of moods when I tried to watch this......I suppose it is possible to not be in the mood for corn-ball comedy. Duh-huh, I'm Steve Martin!............
I'll give it another try on a rare day I might be in the right mood.
