I'm thinking about the Blu-Ray of Thou Shalt Not Kill... since it is one of 3 discs I need to review in the next few days. All are perfectly suited for the challenge though, which is great.

I started with the first Puppet Master, listened to the audio commentary on Death Race this morning, for double creadit with the Action/Adventure Challenge, then I plan to work my way through the rest of my Full Moon Box set of the Puppet Master Complete Collection.

Four minutes into my first Corman film - Monster from the Ocean Floor - and there's the man himself, uttering the immortal line, "Want a towel?" I've got a whole stack of Shout! Factory double-features on deck, so this should be an enjoyable if mindless day.

I bookmarked a slew of exploitation movies from the 30s and 40s that someone uploaded from a Mill Creek set to YouTube, starting with She Shoulda Said NO! (although the YouTube post calls it Wild Weed). It's a "marijuana KILLS!" shocker in the spirit of Reefer Madness, but with higher production values, including a theremin on the soundtrack that gave the film's turn-on scenes a sci-fi vibe. Given how women in the film slapped on the pancake and eyeliner, they could have passed for creatures from another planet.
The story concerns a nightclub dancer who falls in with the reefer crowd. The dancer is played by Lila Leeds, an actress featured in real-life headlines the previous year when she was arrested with Robert Mitchum for smoking dope. Some actors familiar to noir fans, like Lyle Talbot and Alan Baxter, show up, and Henry Corden (the voice of Fred Flintstone) appears in an uncredited role as Hugo, the nightclub manager.
Here's the trailer.

Tomorrow I'm meeting some friends at the AFI Silver to see Xanadu on the big screen!

Machete Maidens Unleashed. I always like getting in the spirit of things by kicking it off with either a trailer compilation or a exploitation "best of" documentary.

The best thing about Deathstalker is that I never have to watch it again - I'll need at least a week's respite before tacking Part II. Only two movies in and I'm already wavering on my all-Corman vow...

Thou Shalt Not Kill was a fun way to start. The disc review is finished (link in sig!). I just finished up Ghanian Video Tales, which is a doc on the film industry of Ghana, they know how to exploit like the best of them! Worth checking out if you have time during the challenge.

I was planning to start today with some Crown International action flicks, but I still have a few big-budget movies left to watch for the Action Challenge, so I guess I'll start tomorrow. Oh well, I liked it better having this Challenge start on April 1st anyway.

I started with Black Jesus, which sounds like a blaxploitation film, but is really an Italian political drama with Woody Strode as the lead. It's on YouTube,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQq8UtedgUk

Great way to start the challenge, spent the day at Cinema wasteland. Met Jim the dragon Kelly, John Saxon, and PJ Soles & Dey Young from Rock n Roll High School.

I've had a crush on PJ and Dey for over 25 years and they turn out to be about the sweetest human beings on the planet. It's so cool when these people turn out to be really nice. Jim Kelly was cool, too. I didn't get to talk to John Saxon. When I went back for his autograph he had left early.

Is it a bad thing that I had planned to take this weekend off from work for months in advance just so I can attempt back to back all-nighters? Anyone else alter their schedules at all for this challenge or am I just a lone nut?

Yeah, Jim Kelly was very personable and we spoke for a while. He was charging extra for photo ops, though. Still, the dude is a legend.

A lot extra? If it was like $5 I'd cave and go for it. I think charging extra for pics if you buy an autograph is lame though. I wish Monster Mania or Horrorfind would get more cult film guests like Jim Kelly or Pam Grier... branching out from the straight horror would freshen things up.
