We wrapped it up with Scream 4, another first-tie viewing for her. It was a good day and made me wish we could have company over more often.

On a side note...is anyone else getting much less sleep than usual this month? I can't recall the last time I was asleep before 1am this month and that is extremely unusual for me.

I'm finding myself willing to stay up later watching movies, something I haven't done in other challenges.

Some of you may want to save a horror comedy or two for after midnight on Halloween night. The 1st Annual DVDTalk Comedy Challenge is now official, set for every November. Anything you watch after midnight could count for both Challenges. I know the theme night is Halloween-related stuff, but tons of that is comedy as well.

I can usually fit in about 3 movies after work each day, since I get home somewhere between 3 and 4pm most of the time. But I've been finding myself starting to nod off towards the end, lately. Just can't stay up as late as I used to! And, man, am I dragging today...

Agreed! There's an abundance of naked women in horror and a serious shortage of attractive and equally naked men. Ryan is the rare and totally necessary exception in that movie and I, for one, appreciated it.

For today's Werewolf theme, I broke out The Wolf Man box set from Universal. When I fired up the first DVD, one of the features was "Stephen Sommers on The Wolf Man." It took me a second, but then I recalled that these Universal Horror Classics sets were re-released in support of Van Helsing--what a crappy, crappy movie that was.

I'm not working today, so it's all werewolves all day chez Gobear.

Regarding Mother of Tears there was some early potential and an ambitious attempt but it seemed to quickly get silly with the Suspiria prequel tie-in attempt and good versus bad witches. I've seen worse but expected better.

On Netflix Dead End (2003) is a disposable cliche/parody that despite it's flaws pulls off some tension and is propelled by strong character actors.

Does either [Rec] 2 or Quarantine 2 count as found footage?

This looks interesting, can anyone report back? I remain skeptical.

My work schedule this week sucks, I think I'm only scheduled to work like 6 hours in total. My list could profit from this change, if I wasn't also looking for a new job

That said, I'm planning two first-time viewings today: The Exorcist (1973) & The Exorcist II (1977)

Before everyone else weighs in with their negative comments, let me just say that I loved EXORCIST II. If I can dig up my VHS copy, I'll watch it again for this challenge, the first time in over 20 years. (I saw THE EXORCIST twice in theaters when it came out, but have never felt the urge to revisit it. I saw EXORCIST II when it came out, right after Warner Bros. butchered the ending because of opening-night laughter at it. Fortunately, the VHS copy restored the original ending.)

There were some nice price drops at Amazon, so I ordered a few more Blu-rays. Now if only they would come down on Vampire Circus. That disc is so expensive there! I reported the cheaper online price that DeepDiscount has to Amazon, maybe I'll get lucky and they will match it.

They both are first time viewings for me, I was never into the horror genre until about 6 months ago.

If you don't mind me being nosy, what changed your mind 6 months ago? A particular movie that you saw?

Can't wait to get home from work. Also can't wait to get done with this gigantic Political Science Midterm in 2 hours.

Completely stressed out. Need Horror films

EXORCIST II, directed by John Boorman, is very different from THE EXORCIST.

THE EXORCIST played into Catholic fear and superstition, while EXORCIST II took a much broader, pan-religious approach and is much more hopeful. It's the difference between the Inquisition and the Enlightenment. Part II is almost not even a horror film.

Yeah, I was gonna say Humanoids from the Deep is $15.99 since a few were waiting for the Corman sets to drop. Normally I'd hold off for a bigger drop, but I'm tired of waiting.

I plan on catching all three - original, prequel and the remake. Save the best for last.

Less sleep ...more coffee. That's my mantra for the month. There's no way I could keep the average of 5 on weekdays without sacrificing some.

What's the ruling about watching different versions of the same film in different languages? I don't mean just the same film with a different language track, but like the Classic Media Godzilla films where the American and Japanese releases are two different films.

I'll hopefully be starting the Halloween series tomorrow. I can't wait. Season of the Witch always seems to get a lot of hate, but I love it.

I picked up my copy of vampire circus on blu from deep discount for less than 16 shipped and they were quick about the shipping too. I am glad i got it because it is pretty good.

Really want that Humanoids BD, but it needs to drop at least a couple more bucks. Did pick up Piranha today though.

If anyone is looking for a cool short film check out La Cabina.
