New DVDs/Blu Rays hitting Friday instead of Tuesday. Reasoning?
I recently noticed that instead of new movies being released in stores on Tuesday of each week it has now moved to Friday. Can anyone explain the reasoning why this has happened and why Friday?

New releases were on Tuesdays because retailers wanted something to drive consumer traffic to their stores on a historically low sales day. As media of this form loses it's sales appeal, studios are more open to trying something new.

The bulk of releases are still on Tuesday. Certain big titles are released on Friday, presumably in hopes of standing out from the crowd (most of them would stand out anyway). The Twilight films have been coming out on Saturday.

Only 2 days on sale, so there's more opportunity for people to not make it in and then have to pay full price the next week? That's been my guess. Most people probably don't want to go shopping on a Friday after work, so you either make it Saturday or you blow it.

I think it has to do with consumer perception. By releasing a movie on friday the consumer is more likey to have more money in their pocket (as a lot of people are paid on fridays) and they are more likely to purchase a film on friday because they can watch it that weekend.
