Skip Coming Attractions ??

I start Gullivers Travels for my kid and there is movie after movie of coming attractions. I cant fast forward or skip. To make things worse it freezes up twice and I have to sit through 25 minutes of movies extra. Counting the first time it was over a half hour of crap I did not want to watch. I thought they got rid of this years back with Disney ? This was the facist News Corp. Is there any way to bypass this? Im really pissed off. Its not like Im getting a free service like tv and the commercials help pay for the time.

Did you try pushing the menu button?

You can sometimes stop the movie, then resume and it takes you to the menu.

I pressed all the usual buttons menu, fast forward, next chapter. I remember Disney did this years back with some of their early DVDs and there was a big backlash and they stopped.

They do this on the rental version sometimes. Was this a rental?

Count the main feature also, then it's a total of 2 hours of crap you don't want to watch...

Yes it was. Do all studios do this?

Totally agree. Of course there were a lot of crappy movies I liked when I was a kid my parents sat through.

I rented Love and Other Drugs (also a Fox film) from netflix and was able to chapter-skip through the previews. It maybe be set up differently though.

I've started to notice some rentals at Redbox have done this.

Haven't paid attention enough to know if it is just certain studios.

Gulliver's definately was one that I recall.

Yeah, I've noticed this more and more. Disney used to be the worst offender.

They are authored in such a way that you cannot skip or press "top menu", "menu" etc.

Not much you can do except use the visual FF through it or with Disney titles you would select "scene selection" at the menu and select "chapter one" bypassing the FBI warning, ads etc. Avoid the so-called "Fast Play" feature.

hit stop stop play on your remote and the movie should jump over all the extra crap.. er stuff and just begin... that's what I heard, tried it on the Star Wars IV DVD the other day and it worked.

I hate when DVDs are like this. I buy rental copies of some movies, especially movies I don't think I'll watch much (since they're cheaper).

There was one dvd I watched that locked out all functions during the previews/ads. Even the power button wouldn't work. Once the previews started, only way to stop them was unplug the player.

I've run into a few DVDs that won't let you skip past the previews, and a couple that wouldn't let you skip past that stupid little "Don't Steal DVDs" nerve-jangling video they made us sit through (my god I just BOUGHT the damned DVD and you're going to make me sit through some nerve-jangling crap about stealing it?). Those 6 episode Outer Limits collections are good for that. The Prophecy 3 is one that comes to mind for not letting you skip past the previews, I'll have to try Stop Stop Play next time I run into that, see if it works. Thanks for that Giles! -kd5-

What DVD was that so I can avoid it?

Also, I would think there has to be something illegal about a studio taking the previews to that extreme. Digital entrapment or something....sigh.

Re: Skip Coming Attractions ??

Yeah, it really depends on the studio/title. I just got a picture of some studio exec announcing, "OK, the powers-that-be have decreed that all our discs have to have forced, unskippable trailers," generating groans from all the people who author/code the discs.

<i>Mod note: Agreed... everyone please take time to review http://forum.dvdtalk.com/dvd-talk/23...ease-read.html If you don't have anything good to say about the movie either post it in an appropriate thread in the movie forum and/or don't click on the DVD thread. Threads about the DVD are NOT the place for this sort of criticism.

thanks</i>
