Re: 4th Annual Summer Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge - Discussion Thread

Looking back on this year's challenge, I was amazed at how many movies was able to watch (thanks Netflix!). I revisited some movies I haven't seen in decades (Spaceballs, Flash Gordon, The Crow), re-experienced some on Blu-ray (Terminator Salvation, The Matrix Reloaded, Alice In Wonderland), and watched the entire Harry Potter series for the first time in a matter of eight days. The best part was spending a lot of it with my son and watching him critique every movie, from the stinkers to the classics. This is, by far, my favorite annual challenge! Thanks to Mister Peepers for keeping this going and all the forum members who inspired me with their lists.

Yet, I can find time to fit in crap like "Beast with a Million Eyes", the most excruciatingly painful 75 minutes ever. Go figure.

Guilty of the same line of thinking. I had saved a ton of sci-fi films on the DVR. For most of the month, I watched movies that I figured were average knowing I'd delete them when I was done to free up space. Didn't get to a few that I really wanted to see.

It's called 'Saving the best for last' syndrome.

Going off the totals, I'd like to believe it was a more relaxed challenge than last year with more people grouped towards a 1 or 2 a day average viewing schedule.

I had a pretty relaxed time of it. There were some nights that were rough and I'd stay up with three or more movies, then a few days might pass and I wouldn't get to anything. I got some big movie monkeys off my back (2001, the original silent Lost World, Blade Runner, Highlander, RoboCop, The Fly--original and remake, etc.). That was nice.

So, once again, kudos to Mister Peepers for running a fine show, kudos to those with higher view count totals and congratulations to the prize winners!

Seconded!

Had a great time! Was out of town for a good week and a half. Would have cracked a hundred otherwise.

I've watched less during each of the Challenges these last few years. Watching 40 to 60 movies (or the equivalent) every month is more than enough.

Thanks again for the great challenge Mister Peepers, and for drawing my name!

Thanks to GoldenWheels and Hamiltonbooks for my prize! I love those multi-pack collections of those type of films.

Sorry about wimping out on my personal list and stopping my formatting, linking, and numbering part way through. I ended with at least 51 as a total count fwiw.

Even with my total I had a relaxed challenge simply because this is my 100% favorite genre!

Congrats to all the winners!!

Thanks Mister Peepers for running things!

Thanks to the sponsors!

I can hardly wait 'til next July to have a "good" excuse gorge on sci-fi again!

In the bottom group again but watched a lot of good stuff and hit about the same total as last year.

Thanks, Mister Peepers, challenge sponsors, and all discussion participants!

I'm impressed that the lowest number we had was 8. You usually always have a small group that watches 1 or 2 and then just forgets about it.

Yeah, 8 averages out to multiple items per week, which sounds like a significant commitment to me.

Hitting the mail today Trevor! Enjoy!

Also, the winner of Damnation Alley that picked the DVD, your prize also went out today. (I only have your real name so I'll keep that to myself, you know who you are, either Ash or Adam)
