A comment in the Bargains forum here got me looking at the 1980's British series Robin of Sherwood on DVD and Blu-ray. I loved this show when it originally ran on PBS and still have my self-recorded VHS tapes, but have now added a digital version to my wants list.

I don't currently own a Blu-ray player, but my DVD player is region-free, so I'm free to pick either regions 1 or 2, and that's what has me confused. The first complete UK release was back in 2003, on 9 disks, and detailed on DVDCompare. But according to Amazon UK, there was also an 8-disk release that same year, and the 2010 re-release is also supposedly 8 disks. The current US DVD set is 10 disks. Meanwhile, the first two seasons have been released on Blu-ray in the UK, and will appear here next month. If Amazon can be believed, the UK set is 5 disks, and in the US, it's on 4 disks.

I am petitioning DVDCompare to update their entry, but can anybody shed a light on why the disk counts are so different? The Blu-ray releases do appear to have additional HD content, but I'd like to know if any of the other content is different or missing, either between countries or between formats. Can anyone help?
