The Ghost and the Darkness...DVD?

Hello

This is one of those movies that's doesn't dazzel or brings in great reviews but for me has been a some what of a fascination and intrigue. It's been rarely shown on cable/Dish and decided to just get the DVD (not on BD yet). However I cannot find much reviews on the video and audio of the disc except on Amazon. I think it's on letterbox format but that's all I know.

It's an enjoyable movie w Kilmer & Douglas; not sure why it has been 'ignored'.

Yeah an updated anamorphic presentation of this film would be welcomed!

I don't know if i should hold out hope for a BD realease or not. For good sake if they can realease "Demolition Man" to "12 o'clock High" to "Legend" on BD then why not this? I look at the growing list of movies being turned to BD and it's like WTF!

I agree that this is under-appreciated. One of those films that I can't click away from if I stumble upon it on cable.

Re: The Ghost and the Darkness...DVD?

I actually "Googled" this for BD and found a older DVD Talk topic on this from 2009 asking the same question...coming to BD/ In fact I found a couple of forums that had this. And all agreed on BD with the African landscape it would be solid visually. But it did win some Oscar I thought for best sound editing or some sound catergory. And everyone said that would be something to hear and see on BD. Jaws on land...

Paramount may release The Ghost and the Darkness on BD in the near future. It's just a matter of time, like any other blu-ray catalog title releases.

You're referring to 3 recent, and upcoming blu-ray releases from 3 different studios! Demolition Man is from Warner Brothers, 12 o' Clock High (20th Century Fox), and Legend (Universal.)

Paramount rereleases a fair amount of stuff so I'm a little surprised that they never got around to this one. Then again, I don't know if the substudio involved was a factor or legal or whatever.

Re: The Ghost and the Darkness...DVD?

This would be a release date purchase for me, and I pretty much make it a rule to hold off buying catalog titles until a sale hits. Its a great-looking film that would benefit greatly from blu-ray.

Somewhat off topic, but its Val Kilmer and Paramount: I'm even more surprised that The Saint hasn't made it to blu yet. It didn't light the world on fire in the theatre, but seemed to be a fairly popular title on DVD.

Re: The Ghost and the Darkness...DVD?

I was just at Amazon and noticed that there is a new 2013 release of The Ghost and the Darkness with a new cover.

It's standard, not Blu-ray.

Does anyone know if the extras (if there are any) are different from the original release?

They kill animals in this movie. No thank you.

I like this movie once in a while. Doesn't bother me a bit about the animals.

I hate to say it, but its probably a repackaging of the original dvd. Any updates on the video and audio would be on a bluray if it ever comes out.

Re: The Ghost and the Darkness...DVD?

Thanks, Bluelitespecial.

This is one of those movies that was always on my list but I never got around to picking up.

I just prefer this cover to the original red one.

The other has only the trailer for extras.

I was just hoping this one did as well.

I knew I probably wouldn't be gaining anything in terms of quality and extras, but I didn't want to be going backwards either.

EDIT: I heard that this DVD (and the original) are not enhanced for widescreen TVs.

That would take it off my list with hopes for a Blu-ray release.
