I'll always love movies, so whatever format I have to see them in is good enough for me. As a collector, I feel the sunset is approaching; I'm indulging in the collection that I've amassed and will occasionally garnish it with releases that will only compliment it.

I still buy, just not as frequently. When I do it's either good sales on new releases I want, or more often great deals on Used DVD's at various stores in my area.

As others mentioned, when you have collections as large as some of us do, you pretty much have a lot of what you want to own/watch.

Re: Have You Lost That DVD/BD Lovin' Feeling?

I just about have my entire back list, life will be getting busier and at this time I have been in a mood to watch films and shows that I have not seen, I still highly enjoy my top films, I may thin some of the filler or just hang on to them if their value is low, I keep them in file case so they take up little room. It is possible once I am able to purchase a much larger television that more joy could come from it again, right now I am just not in a mood to watch something I know every detail about, there is so much I have not seen that I am enjoying that at this time.

I upgraded many films to Blu-Ray, aside from still needing Batman Begins and a couple others I am done with upgrading for now until used Blu-Rays become very cheap. Anything new is Blu-Ray. I have caught myself watching forty five or twenty two minutes shows of late as there is less time devoted to watching them. There are several films coming out this year I will want to own, however I do not purchase films when first released. Now if I did not watch anything at the theater I could see it not being so bad to purchase a new Blu-Ray combo pack for around twenty dollars when first released.

I still may thin out my collection a bit, mostly stuff that no one would care about or already has.

Shout! Factory has really kept me going along the last year or so....Getting some shows I've really wanted for a long time and they keep delivering.

Re: Have You Lost That DVD/BD Lovin' Feeling?

I have pretty much bought everything I wish to own on dvd. And even most of that I sold off or traded in. Just down to the essentials now. Until The X-Files, Buffy and Angel series go to blu-ray (which I doubt will ever happen) I don't see myself buying anything else or even bothering buying a blu-ray player unless my dvd player kills over.

I don't buy as much anymore because it just seems like only crap is getting released in the tv market. Very few gems left for me to get excited about this year like Denise the Menance and a new Rawride.

I still buy stuff, just not as much. It has been easier and easier to par down my collection. Unfortunately, since I can't sell them for much more than what it costs to ship the stuff I don't want anymore, if someone even wants to buy it, I just end up tossing them in the trash (or donating to the library/B&G Club, depending on the movie). A lot of stuff isn't even worth the hassle of giving away, much less the hassle of selling/shipping them.

Re: Have You Lost That DVD/BD Lovin' Feeling?

These days I feel more frustrated than excited. It's not like the buzz I got from the early days when I was collecting Laserdiscs. I just couldn't wait to tear upon the mail.

Today I want to see the rest of the Bonds and more Harryhausen and Hammer on Blu-ray. MODs bum me out as I see films I would have bought on DVD end up on DVD-Rs, most recently The Last Dinosaur. I've no interest in the format.

And, I gotta say the Blu-rays of the upcoming extended editions of Lord of the Rings are a bit of downer with the bonus material presented on DVDs. Cheap. Put that stuff on Blu-ray as well. I'd rather they leave off the bonus content.

Still fun collecting movies though. I enjoyed picking up the Japanese imports of the Godzilla movies on Blu-ray and as someone else mentioned the special edition of Battle Royale on Blu. It's also fun to find a great classic for 3 bucks in the Big Lot bins such as yesterday when I picked up Frankenheimer's Black Sunday.

Most of the fun now is in the MOD discs. Many people here refuse to buy them, but I could care less if it's a burned disc, doesn't make a difference while watching it. Gotta wait for sales, though, to get a decent price.

With the exception of the Star Trek Series (All of them) My DVD Purchases are, for the most part complete. I calculated it will take me more than 20 years to finish watching what I already have, so there isn't really too much need to purchase anymore.

Current DVD Inventory. TV Show Episodes: 23,364 Movies 1,691 Serial Chapters: 491
Come on. . . I predict 15 years tops. You better pick up a few more titles to be sure.

I do have to admit that I succumbed to the new Ten Commandments mega-set - and I only like the movie, but it's got every bell and whistle imaginable, AND it's numbered...

Re: Have You Lost That DVD/BD Lovin' Feeling?

Now I am wondering if part of it is due to this small television/monitor. Having a screen larger then 24" would make movies feel larger, plus having some comfortable setting, watching everything at a desk is not always fun.

Re: Have You Lost That DVD/BD Lovin' Feeling?

Any doubt I had as to my answer to the question was answered by the crates of laserdiscs in the back seat of my car destined for the scrap heap. Well unless somebody answers my ad on craigslist for them. Looking at my stack of DVDs in the TV room I already have most titles I want and would watch again. Little (with the exception of TV shows) has come out recently that warrants a second viewing and if it does there is always Netflix/Redbox. I will upgrade to BluRay eventually (maybe this Christmas) but even then I doubt I will buy that many...

Re: Have You Lost That DVD/BD Lovin' Feeling?

I've been a collector of stuff since I was a kid, from comic books to LPs to CDs to DVDs. I just like having physical media that I own and control. I continue to have fun hunting for great DVD deals--but it mostly has to be a super deal, about the cost of a Netflix rental or cheaper. I rarely pony up for regular or even sale retail prices. So I guess I'm still lovin' the DVD thing. As for Blu Rays, I'm going to wait until they're as cheap as today's bargain DVDs.

I buy a lot of movies, well people say i do because i made a lot of money on eBay recently and decided to just get movies and i got packages about 4 days in one week, but i preordered a couple things but yeah. I only get excited when its for a movie I absolutely love or with Anna Faris. Other than that not always. I did get excited when I got the Kardashians Seasons on DVD. LOL

Re: Have You Lost That DVD/BD Lovin' Feeling?

I woke up one day about a month ago and decided I didn't need thousands of DVD's anymore. The collection was becoming unmanageable. So I started ripping them and creating a digital library with XBMC. I took a lot of the common stuff to a local trader and I've been selling all the OOP and valuable stuff on ebay in themed lots for a week now. I thought it would be hard to let some of it go, but it actually feels great to get rid of so much shit. And now I have most of it on 4 hard drives.
