Semi-related to this month's challenge: the category III softcore historical epic 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy is currently breaking box office records in Hong Kong, even beating Avatar's first day record. The film is a loose remake of the 1991 film of the same name and is touted by the filmmakers as being the first erotic film to be shot in IMAX 3-D.

Edit: It turns out IMAX rejected the film.

For in the mood for a TV-Movie in all its TV-Movie-ness: I watched Someone I Touched, streaming on Netflix. it's a melodramatic but earnest cautionary tale dealing with the spread of VD among the respectable middle-class. Generally well-acted with a cast that includes Cloris Leachman (who sings the theme song!), Kenneth Mars and Glynnis O'Connor.

Certainly set me up interestingly for the Radley Metzger I watched the next day...

Sounds like something that would satisfy the Lifetime movie item.

We went to bed last night and began watching the 1949 Batman and Robin serial, and instantly loved its low-budget silliness. We made it through the first three chapters before calling it a night, and are eager to resume it later tonight. It's pretty easy to see how Hugh Hefner screening this at the Playboy Mansion helped generate the 1966 TV series. I'd love to get the 1943 Batman serial, as well as the two Superman serials.

I highly recommend the second Superman serial, ATOM MAN VS. SUPERMAN (1950), one of the best serials I've ever seen and one of the best examples of filmed Superman. It's much more like the comic than the first Superman serial and has all sorts of cool stuff in it, like the Phantom Zone. There's something new and different in each episode. Not many serials can say that. Lyle Talbot plays Lex Luthor as a "reformed" businessman, who runs Metropolis' TV station. He even hires Lois Lane (Noel Neill) away from the Daily Planet and has her doing man-on-the-street live TV interviews. Great stuff.

I watched both Batman series during the first sci-fi/fantasy challenge and thought they were both pretty good.

Re: Second Annual Drive-In/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge March 31-April 30 2011

Had a massive computer-failure a few days ago. I've since got a terrible microsoft bug (The "Operation Aborted" kind) which prevents me from even accessing this forum (It seems like it only wants to let me in whenever it feels like it)
I still have marathon-spirit and will watch plenty of films next week. Not sure If I'll be able to list what I saw though.

Problem seems to be solved for the moment. Now the other problem is to see if I can reach 100 movies. I'll feel so ashamed for not doing so but I've got LOTS of time next week to see if I can pull it off.

It's not an all-out biker film, more like a hybrid. But it is a pretty good one, nonetheless. In my top 3 Crown International flicks.

Today is shaping up to be my first 3+ movie day of the challenge.

All Tarantino Presents movies are safe, yes?

Re: Second Annual Drive-In/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge March 31-April 30 2011

9 movies left until I finish what I had planned for the challenge.

Blood River
Tepepa
A Pistol For Ringo
Johnny Hamlet
Massacre Time
¡Mátalo!
Trinity Is STILL My Name!
Django the Bastard
Shoot the Living and Pray for the Dead

After those, I guess I'll just pick unwatched stuff randomly off my shelves. I think the first thing I'll go through is the Angel quadrilogy, minus the first one which I've already seen.

I'll be back Monday, hopefully with a vengeance. Congrats to those that made it to 100 already.

I caught Deliverance on TV during my honeymoon, does that count as hixploitation or should I be slapping a wildcard on it?

100 in the book! Still a ways to go on the checklist though. I think I'm close to hitting my wall! We'll see if I can make it!

I should probably mention that I'm trying to finish the checklist without using the same movie twice. NOT EASY!

Congrats to the 100 Club. I'm at 75(?) and figure I'll hit the century mark around the 28th or 29th.

Currently I'm enjoying a Jack Hill marathon:

Spider Baby
Sorceress
The Big Doll House
The Big Bird Cage (next)
Switchblade Sisters

And tomorrow is Django ripoffs:

Django, Kill ...if You Live, Shoot!
Django Strikes Again
Viva Django
Return of Django

...followed by a list update.

This is gotta be the first challenge where my indecisiveness hasn't hindered me and choosing a film involves no specific rhyme or reason. Other than a couple of theme days, I simply watch whatever I'm in the mood for. And surprisingly (so far) no real turds in the bunch!

Re: Second Annual Drive-In/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge March 31-April 30 2011

All these spaghetti westerns put me in the mood to finally try Red Dead Redemption, which I bought last summer. Played about 7 hours and didn't do much more than hunting and skinning animals, along with going out away from the towns and ambushing people and stage coaches that would come by. Horses pulling coaches wouldn't get off easy. They'd get a bullet to the head.

Occasionally an eyewitness would get away and then I'd get chased by the law for awhile. What can I say? I'm easily amused.

I miss watching movies. Although I am enjoying the presentations here on my visit to Des Moines. Not looking forward to the 10 1/2 hour drive back home, plus losing an hour for the time zone.

Re: Second Annual Drive-In/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge March 31-April 30 2011

Finally saw Enter the Dragon!

Then I added it to my list and realized it's been 10 days since I completed the previous film. I've started a few others but am not looking good on reaching my goal of 20

But taking some key films off my to-watch list makes it worth it.
