Re: DVD Talk New-To-DVD Theatrical Release and Discussion Thread

Word going around is that Warner Bros is releasing "The Rite" on April 5th. not sure how true that is
and that Unkown is May 10th
and that Hall Pass is June 21st

which would mean Sucker Punch will probably end up being their July Release

Whereas, I heard rumblings today that "The Rite" is May 3rd, with "No Strings Attached" now being May 10th, and "Unknown" on May 24th.....hmmmmm.

yea the problem is, every studio right now has all kinds of unoffical release dates floating around, because most of the stuff coming out doesnt have any real box office behind it (besides true grit) so dates are gonna get moved around quite a bit. if its true about no strings attached, that means 4/26 which currently has nothing on it. will feature a big Tent pole. if thats the case, i wouldnt be suprised if Fox threw Big mommas or Summit put Drive Angry on that day. I dont see any big potential Tentpoles, so who knows

the meeting today was quite funny. We looked at all the current titles scheduled for May/June that are in theatres. and only Just go with it, Never say never, Rango, and No strings attached are the only bonifed hits from other studios.

I am number four Under-performed
and Gnomeo over performed

we decided that by releasing Gnomeo in late late may, we can capitalize on all of June, and not worry about going up against really any other family film. other then Rango which is currently scheduled for July. and our next Family film is Mars needs Moms, which we scheduled for late late June. so that way we can have legs on both of them. and Diary of a wimpy kid 2, Rio and Hop as the other family films which are scheduled for late july and august. with the possibility that Hop ends up getting a DVD release at easter 2012. so we figured that our two Family films will perform well.

and the next feature will be Prom in Mid August

It's done quite often actually. Megamind which came out the last week in February was released on a friday

back in December both The Town and Legend of the Guardians were released on friday

it helps Studios with certain movies avoid being forgotten during the busy tuesday release. Music and some Games also get released on tuesdays. so with all that new media in one day, moving a release to a friday. it can capitalize on familys who may have forgotten it earlier in the week

Re: DVD Talk New-To-DVD Theatrical Release and Discussion Thread

I wonder how the whole Theatrical version and Director's Fan Cut is going to go for the DVD of Never Say Never, if they're going to release them separately, together as a 2-Disc or release the Theatrical version first and then the Director's Fan Cut a few months later?

Thank you, Mao and Sony Classics.

This is a release I've been looking forward to since I first saw Another Year in November. It's a real shame Lesley Manville was overlooked at about every award this year; she and Jacki Weaver in Animal Kingdom really changed the face of supporting actress this year.
