WB recently released the Legends of the Super-heroes specials through WBShop. I wonder if they could be interested in making this an exclusive through WBShop as well ? It does seem to fit their current direction.

/\ If they ever settle with the Doziers and 20th Century Fox, I think they would bypass MOD and go straight to store shelves (If there are still store shelves in 2165, that is )

I think WB knows how well it would sell and they would just make it a regular disc release as opposed to MOD.

If they ever do release it, better to do so as a complete series than the seasons and have the whole set at once. However, until those rights issues get settled, who knows when it will come out.

The HUb channel has been showing episodes of Batman every night at 10pm I think.

All this news over finally capturing and killing Bin Laden has kept me up for hours, and I decided to try to at least step away from the coverage for a bit by channel surfing and I came upon back-to-back episodes of Batman on Hub right now (a 2-parter featuring The Joker). During the main title sequence, the little graphic came up and informed me that this show is available in HD! (Don't have HD service so I'll have to take the graphic at its word.) That suggests to me, at least, that someone has made a recent effort to get this show in tip-top condition.

I knew all that. It just seems to me that having the show remastered in HD is awfully costly...especially if there's no expectation of DVD/Blu-ray sales. How much money can they possibly be making strictly through syndication?

A year later... any updates on this? I've been very tempted lately to buy a bootleg set. Anyone who has...any recommendations?

Boy I'd sure love for this to finally happen....my son is a huge Batman fan already at 4 and loves the episodes he's seen on the Hub--and I'd love to actually watch the series start to finish in order, I've only ever seen random episodes.

Last week I was watching the 60s movie Caprice with Doris Day. A Fox movie. There was a scene with the opening credits to Batman on a tv. In the movie's end credits was a big long copyright disclaimer about the clip listing Fox, DC Comics and Greenway Productions.

speaking of the unofficial sets, be careful. I got one awhile back (the 30-disc version, the one with the least compression/least # of episodes per disc, which has the JaxFX menu screens), but didn't play every disc all the way through (just stuck them in the player to see if they'd play). Recently discovered at least one disc is bad (disc 10). Freezes in the third episode. Naturally, the guy I got it from went "radio silent" when I asked him if I could obtain a replacement disc, so unless I can find a kind soul who will replicate discs at a reasonable cost, I'm stuck.

I don't get why people would buy an unofficial set, at rip-off prices, when all that person did was just download and burn them.

I presume because the commonly available download versions are low res and extremely lossy. I have heard tales of decent quality sets out there but never actually run across one myself.

Basically the companies are waiting out the deaths of certain key contractual participants. It's much easier and cheaper dealing with estates than living people. I could see it being released around 2020-2025.

2020? that would put the series at age 52 at the minimum. hopefully there will be enough folk by then who would really care. At least they should try to get it done while Adam West is still with us.

Warner Bros Launches Merchandise Campaign For 1960s ‘Batman’ TV Series

BURBANK, Calif., June 7, 2012 — Holy Licensing Program, Batman! Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) unveiled today, in advance of Licensing Show 2012, a new licensing program inspired by the classic 1960′s television series, Batman. The program will feature captured photography from the live-action series, as well as the illustrated character art inspired by the series’ animated opening sequence, and will incorporate the vehicles, gadgets and catchphrases that have made the show a cultural phenomenon.
“The Batman Classic TV Series celebrates an incarnation of Batman that for many fans was their first introduction to ‘The Caped Crusader’ and his many friends and foes,”said Brad Globe, president, Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “This new licensing program captures the playful and stylish spirit of the iconic Batman while bringing a fresh look that will appeal to the Batman enthusiasts and nostalgic fan base, as well as to a new generation of fans.”
As part of the new licensing and merchandising program, licensees will have the chance to bring to life some of the most recognizable elements of Batman, including the “Dynamic Duo” of Batman and Robin and an arsenal of archenemies such as The Penguin, The Joker and The Riddler. Batman’s famous high-tech gadgetry will be featured in the program such as the Bat-phone, the Bat-zooka and the Bat-signal, along with other ultramodern tools – and don’t forget the famous Batmobile.
WBCP now has the rights to license the likenesses of the actors from Batman as part of the Batman Classic TV Series licensing program. Throughout the duration of the 120-episode run of Batman, the venerable actors of the series include Adam West as Batman, Burt Ward as Robin, Cesar Romero as The Joker, Burgess Meredith as The Penguin, Vincent Price as Egghead and Eartha Kitt as Catwoman, among many others.
“This is an incredible moment in the history of Batman, as the incredible roster of talent and famous characters, including the Rogues Gallery of infamous villains, and the unforgettable creative elements from the series, have never before been brought to life through such a licensing program,” added Globe.
With only the Batmobile from the classic television series currently licensed by WBCP, this is the first time in decades that the show’s beloved characters and unforgettable themes are back on the streets and will give fans the chance to capture their favorite moments. The Batusi is back!
